New Stuff

My small travel sketchbook is almost finished. It is a Canson Mix Media 5.5 x 8.5 inches. The paper in the Canson is 98 pounds.  There are only a few pages to fill in.  That is always fun.  It is also fun to start a new one.

I wanted to replace it with a mix media sketchbook so I can put in a bit of watercolor if the mood strikes.    I found a Ohuhu mix media book that is 10 x 7.6 inches and has 120 pound paper which is a bit stronger.    I decided to order it and of course it is made in China.  Canson are made in France.  I have waterbrushes by this company that have really lasted and been worthwhile so decided to go for it.  I also ordered some drawing pens.

It made me smile when I saw the photo, it looks like it is plugged in with my phone line!

I tried it out yesterday at the doctor's office and at the 602 Brew Pub.  For Scavenger Hunt from Life 35.

Number 9, nerdy - the folks using their iPhones so we will call them nerdy - probably aren't.
Number 10, treat - finding a Peruvian sculpture at the office was a treat after looking at almost dead plants at the Physical Therapy place.
Number 11, violet - subbed a little tree in a pot near the sculpture.
Number 12, older - the older hat Gene was wearing.  It has a pin from his Air Force days, a SAC missile.  He was on a crew of the Atlas F missiles.
Number 13, edge - the edges of the counter and the shelves with the bottle
Number 14, queen - the pub dog could be the queen of the pub at least for my sketch.

These were done in the new sketchbook with the Ohuhu 0.3 pen.  Very nice paper and pen.

Number 14, medal - the wall next to the window to the office at physical therapy has certificates honoring the therapists.  Certificates to sub for medals.  This is in the travel sketchbook with the Sharpie pen.  I like that book and pen, too.

I worked a little at various times over the last few days on my pastel painting.  I find it very hard to paint when I can't keep at it.  Coming back more than a day later I find I lost the idea and excitement.  That is a reason why I don't often do a scene over again.  Maybe that is why I like plein air and still life, but not so much painting from photos.  The photo is already there, right?

I try to finish in a day or at least come back to a painting before I start something else.  We will see how it goes.

Ohuhu, huh? I have never heard of them, but I might have to give them a try. I love to try new supplies. The sketches are all fun - the Peruvian statue is interesting. Anything South American makes me think of you and Gene. Like, I am reading a book series by Jim Curtis called the Grey Man series. Jim Curtis is an old blogger that used to show up on Buck's blog and Lex's blog - those retired military types. His main character in the series is supposed to have been a DEA agent back in the day in South America and a Vietnam War veteran. Now the character is a rancher, deputy sheriff in West Texas along the border. Pretty interesting, but I think of Gene often and wonder what he would think or say.

Yay for a new sketchbook and sketch materials. You got quite a bit done. I've been pretty lazy the last few hunts. I just looked and realized this hunt is over today. Maybe I'll do better with the next one. (Which is what I usually think. lol)

bag blog, I've had the waterbrushes for years. First and best ones I bought. I bought some cheaper ones to carry in my purse so I wouldn't lose the good ones and they leaked and dried out and fell apart. They aren't expensive products. Had to get them through Amazon, don't see them at Dick Blick. So far so good. Will try water on the sketchbook soon.

Hi, Joan, yep I did a few sketches but they were very sketchy. Ha. I used to average about 13 but lately I'm good to get 6 done. I combined a lot this time for the Hunt. They go by faster and faster. Don't know how you find time. Usually takes longer to post than to sketch or paint.
