I didn't post yesterday for Memorial Day. Shame on me. It is such an important day to me and our family. Here are links to my past posts. It also brought up other Memorials like the one in Angel Fire.

We were quiet here thinking about the ones that gave their all to keep the USA free and "peaceful". Joanna came out and tried to get the Appletv to work with my phone and the TV so I can stream the baseball tournaments this month. No such luck, we don't have enough oomph on our internet to keep all three devices running at the same time. Sigh.....
I cannot believe how the younger generation are being taught that history is not relevant and that the United States is a horrible country and equity over equality. We had made a lot of progress over all the years. Now even Martin Luther King is looked down on. If the "woke" don't wake up, we will be in bread lines and learning how to make fires with flint. The "closed" southern border has drugs and human trafficking flowing. The Canadian border is still really closed. If the elite live in a gated compound guarded by the police that retired from protecting us after the de-funding of police, they don't have to worry I guess. Lack of power and food will hurt them too, but they don't see that. There won't be any electricity to run their cars, etc....
Oh, well, I love the country and hope that calmer and smarter folks will figure all this out. It will take some new people in government. Elected officials were not supposed to make a career of their service but look where we are.
I always cry at the singing of the National Anthem and stories about the military or police. When we were overseas we always had fun, but there is absolutely no place like home in the free USA.
So back to art ...
I sketched on my new iPad on Saturday or Sunday. It has a big screen, like 8 x 10 inches. The new pencil does all sorts of tricks. You know me, though. I'm not into studying and learning. Ha. (You can click on the images to see larger versions.)
Number 2, calm - the bird feeder with no hummingbirds flying around. Digital on the iPad. I used the app Brushes and the Apple Pencil ... and fingers.
Number 3, mailbox - the flag was at half staff for Memorial Day until noon.
Number 4 house - the flag at full staff after noon. Both of these sketches are in the big book with the Lamy pen. It has a larger nib, probably about an .05 so a bit faster than an .02. I wanted to be fast as the mosquitoes were out. I sat on a folding chair with the book on my lap!
A couple of my 12 or so bluebonnets bloomed again. So small I almost missed them.
The house and flag. The sky was amazing. Austin and other areas received several inches of rain. We did not. We need more rain.

Jo I am catching up with you. Have never done much digital sketching. Looks like you have done some practicing. Your hummingbird feeder looks lovely. They are my favorite bird to feed. Their feeders keep me humming filling them every day. :)!
I hear your concerns for our nation and share them as well. I keep "looking up" for this wonderful country we have been so blessed to inhabit in this time and place.
Always enjoy seeing your sketches. Hope you get some much needed rain. We have been dry here in Ohio as well. Think you and I both are to have some much needed moisture coming our way.
Well take care friend and have a wonderful first week of June! Hugs
Hi, Debbie, and thank you. Hummingbirds are fun. They seem to adapt and not be afraid of people. We had so many more the first few summers, then being gone, they got used to no feeders. We have a couple of Ospreys hanging around for some reason. Fun to watch.
Digi sketches are a love hate. They take longer and I tend to forget what worked last time since I don't do it every day. I'm losing a lot of my art skills from not doing it every day. Being old ... older ... is my excuse now.
Your blog is always a calm soothing place to visit and makes me smile.
We are getting to go to a baseball game Friday!! Yay. Will get to hear the National Anthem!
I didn't get out to do a Memorial Day sketch like I usually do. Our weather was cold and rainy most of the weekend. Glad you did get to at least sketch the flag views. Super work on the hummingbird feeder. You do well with the digital drawings. Glad the new iPad is working out.
Joan, thank you soooo much. I didn't get around to adding color to the flags. We didn't get to town for Memorial Day either. They usually have a big ceremony with music and fly over but didn't this year. The new iPad is nice, I just like to use my computer for most things. I will probably use this new one more. You can write into the url bar with the pencil and it changes your writing to typing for the search.... spooky that it can read my writing! Ha.
There is lots to be concerned with in our nation. Hopefully people will stand up and put a stop to the craziness. It's kind of overwhelming to think of. In the meantime. I like the art. It has been very rainy here as well. The yard is a bit of a jungle.
Bag Blog, I try to stay away from the "down" political stuff. Mostly I try to stay upbeat. Ever once in a while some one thing inspires me to say something. Thanks for stopping in for the art. Hope we can see you this summer. Maybe we can meet in the mountains.
