I went to lunch yesterday with a friend. We went to Tough Cookie. It was good to be out with someone besides Gene. Ha. I intended to sketch our lunch as there is smells good and tastes good on our Scavenger Hunt list. I sketched this pot of nature while I waited and then when we got together there was conversation and I forgot about sketching more. Well worth getting together even if I didn't sketch more.
For Scavenger Hunt 675, number 3, nature - the plant and rock inside this antique ceramic jug/pot. I sketched with a Micron 02 and added the watercolor at home. I didn't see my tube of gouache for the white and used acrylic paint, not smooth for the highlights. Next time I will remember!
It was Roger's birthday. He had to make his own cake. He used a recipe I have from the 50s. A Fruit Cocktail Cake. It is delicious if you like coconut and nuts.
Fruit Cocktail Cake from the 50s
2 cups flour
2 tsps baking soda
1 1/2 cups sugar
Mix lightly.
Add
2 cups fruit cocktail (one #303 can)
2 eggs
Mix all and pour in greased/Pam sprayed 9 x 13 inch pan
Sprinkle 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts mixed with 1/2 cup brown sugar on top and bake for about 40 minute at 325 degrees
Combine 1 stick margarine or butter
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup cream or canned milk (I just use milk if I don't have cream)
Bring to boil and cook a couple of minutes, add 1 cup or small bag flaked coconut.
Spread on warm/hot cake as it comes out of the oven.

The cake sounds wonderful. I found a chocolate chip cookie recipe on Pinterest the other day. The cookies were puffed up instead of flat like my usual cookie. It was a good recipe. It called for 3 tBS of cornstarch and a half a tsp of soda. The first time I made them, they were perfect. The second time, I mixed up the soda and the cornstarch - got them backwards. My cookies were flat and salty tasting. Pretty silly!
Bag Blog, the cake is somewhat like German Chocolate without chocolate but twice as easy to make. Could probably throw in some chocolate chips. Your cookies sound good but I'm lazy for baking sheets of cookies.
This recipe for chocolate chip cookies only made about 18 cookies and you bake them at 475 for about 5 minutes - It is short and sweet!
Bag Blog, sounds too good to be true. Heh, heh. Hope to see you soon.
