The paper doesn't show through as much in real life. It is very interesting to try to paint scenes that are mostly green. It all looks the same. To show any distance you need to push back with cool and paler colors and come forward with warm and more intense color.
It isn't possible to put many layers of pastel on this paper. Hints I've accrued over the years are to have lavender behind the trees, orange in the trees and red in pine trees. I didn't put any orange up in the trees, that might have helped cover the "paper holes". The original paper is a blue gray. It does not add anything to a landscape. On sanded paper I would have put an under painting to cover the paper color. Then again this is a sketch .....

The color of that path really brings you into the sketch. Lovely!!
Thank you so much, Joan. I'm smiling.
It's a nice sketch. Greens are difficult. Reading this reminded me of painting at the paint out in RR, when some lady watching me said, "I don't think you used the right green." Geeze, I had used every green I had!
Bag Blog, ha. People are funny. Comments also like, "Are you painting that?" Greens are difficult and there is never a good green. Thanks for stopping by.
