Sweet, Spicy and Sour Pastel Sketch

Another round of pastel today.  Color choices and palette for a sketch was on my "practice" mind.  I used a piece of the dark brown MiTeintes paper left from the other day.  Sweet, Spicy and Sour were items on the Scavenger Hunt 663 list.  We don't usually have oranges here so a nice find for sweet and keeping in the theme.

I was short on the vibrant yellow needed for the lemon.  I will have to order a soft one.  Ludwig would be a good choice.  I can pick up some light blue and light purple at the same time.  Dick Blick is sponsoring wetcanvas so maybe we get a little discount.  I will  check that out.

Number 5, sweet - orange
Number 6, spicy - Hatch 505 Green Chile, medium which had a pretty good bite to it.  505 is the area code in New Mexico.  Clever for the brand.  The chile in the jar is better than canned green chile.  It is good to use in sauces or as it is.
Number 7, sour - lime and lemon, the lime and lemon would go good in some guacamole with the green chile.  As Joanna says, "Alas, no avocado."

Overall I'm happy with the colors in this.  I only had a tiny piece of the lemon yellow in a very soft pastel for the final layer. The paper won't take any more layers.  I almost got it the color I was going for.

What a great still life Jo. I wish I lived close to you...I'm going to Blick's tomorrow and I would've picked it up for you.Lol... It's funny because I'm doing an orange right now as a study (without the skin) and I thought it would be easy but I'm finding it difficult .. I love the orange and wonderful work with the lime.
Enjoy the rest of the evening....

hmuxo, oh, thank you. I would love for you to be my personal shopper. We have a Jerry's Artarama in Austin. They don't have a huge inventory. Looking forward to seeing your orange. Happy painting.

Bag Blog, thank you. The chile in jars seems so much better than canned chile. Maybe they roast it better now. Not sure they even roast what is in the cans. 505 is pretty good.

This is really nice, Jo! I never seem to have the correct color when I am painting a lemon...or if I do it seems to be contaminated with green paint. lol I've been tempted to head over to Blick for some things. I haven't been in an art store in almost a year. It isn't the same when I order on line...I need to look and touch. lol

Joan, hi there. Lucky you to have a Dick Blick nearby. I'd be broke all the time! Thanks.
