Yards of Sketching

Well, not really yards of sketching.  I did sketch the grounds at the Vietnam Memorial and substituted it for yard.  It is said that if you paint 100 paintings you have improved and learned.  I guess if you use yards of paper for sketching you have learned something as well.

It is still strange to me that my sketching hasn't changed that much over the years.

This is from August 1, 2006.  The sketching is much the same.  Maybe the photography or scanning is better now.  If I was home, I would scan one of the really old sketches.  You will have to rely on my blog where you can dig in the archives if you are interested.

Improvements are that I sketch more quickly and am more relaxed when sketching.  It has become my homework and a way to keep my fingers limber when I haven't been painting.  I'm sure I could improve if I studied and practiced with accurate lines and under drawings.  I don't enjoy that, I am too impatient.

It is the same with painting.  I am not a good student.  I can sure tell you what to do though!

I sketched in the travel Canson Mix Media sketchbook so that I could add some watercolor for the item, colorful.  The pen was a Prismacolor 03.

Number 9, colorful - a quilted wall hanging in the entry.  It is about 2 1/2 by 4 or 5 feet, red and white with raffia which is sort of yellow.  I hadn't even really noticed it, maybe because it hangs above my eye level.

Number 10, yard - the yard at the Memorial.  The chapel is a beautiful sweeping shape in white surrounded by the green and blue.  Amazing to see and visit.

They are having a big day today of putting in 500 memorial bricks and having ceremonies.

Yesterday we went to the Vietnam Memorial to get Gene a new cap.  He rode his trike.  I stopped at Subway (in the grocery store, the only "chain" restaurant in Angel Fire) for sandwiches.  I stopped at the Resort coffee shop first, Gene likes their ham sandwiches on croissants.  They had none!  Small town......  :-( We planned to sit at a table and have a real picnic.  As Joanna says, "Alas!" , we had to eat in the car, too windy to sit outside.   It is such a beautiful, peaceful and healing place.  After we loaded the Catrike and went to the Country Club for a drink and then started home.

The flags around the parking lot.  Nice.

We stopped at the grocery store for milk and bananas and they were having music in the park.

Sunset from the park and then from the road home.

Beautiful day all in all.

Nice sketches! I still have my pastel painting of the Vietnam Memorial that we did several years ago.

Toby and I often meet for lunch. I like to do picnics, but with Okie weather, we often end up eating in the car.

Lovely sunsets!

Bag Blog, thank you. I still have my painting, too.
We hardly ever do picnics but it was a good idea.
The sunsets here are great. It's been too cloudy for the last few days, foggy this morning.
