Pastels Were Calling

Scavenger Hunt 554 is almost over, 2 days left.

Pastels are my favorite art tool and they are better painted in pastels.  I got them out to sketch my #4, to do with art.  The list is fun, done like a poem with the items rhyming.  There was a challenge for all of us to do the twelfth item on the list, to do with art.  I'm not sure anyone else did that.  Sad, especially because the rhyme is so neat.

I sketched very quickly so that I could paint for the Southwest August Challenge.  I probably spent about 30 minutes on this including taping the paper to the board.  I used a variety of pastels on a piece of 9 x 12 Mi-tientes paper.

The sketch was a warm up for the painting.  I'm hosting the August Challenge where I have only painted the one small Sundown painting https://jocastilloartblog.blogspot.com/2018/08/sundown-pastel-from-photo.html.  I should do more, right?  My photos and all.  You can see the photos on wetcanvas and paint something for the challenge, too.  There are horses, scenery, cows, flowers, etc., to choose from.

Forgotten
Pastel on Uart 400 Sanded Paper
9 x 12 inches

This is from a New Mexico photo.  I removed a wall, moved trees, left stuff out and this is what was left.  I painted quickly from the photo, but in a plein air style.  By that, I mean that I edited the scene and painted in a couple of hours total.  Plus I was out at the edge of the garage which is outside, right?  I may revisit the tree, but I like it overall.

Thanks, Jennifer Rose. The pastels felt good in the hands today.
