Hunting with Pastels

I stood in the opening of the garage to sketch with my pastels.  Sort of plein air sketching.  The apples on a plate on the hood of the car.  The tree and rock along the driveway.  The big rocks on either side of the drive are marked with reflectors to prevent hitting the rocks.  I wonder if the reflectors were added after something happened?  Hmmm.

These sketches are for Scavenger Hunt 551

Wetcanvas was acting up so it took longer than it should to post.  Irritating.  I should have just come back later, but I'm a glutton for punishment.

Number 3, something taller than me - tree
Number 4, something you pass nearly every day
Sketched on Canson Mi Tientes paper

Number 5, crunchy - apples  Remember this is a sketch, the slices look like a PacMan looking to eat something.  Sketched on green Pastelbord.

I spent about an hour sketching and 30 minutes setting up and taking down the pastels.  Both of these will be wiped off and the surfaces recycled.  There are many things I would change in both sketches if I were to be developing a painting.

Company coming about 6 p.m. so I had better get with it.  Back soon with sketches and info.

Speaking of info, there will be a ceremony to celebrate the Native Americans at the Vietnam Memorial here on Saturday at noon. The exhibit explores the untold stories of Native peoples’ contributions, as the highest percentage of any race of people – per capita – to serve in the U.S. military.  Read about it here:

Our visiting family will be going with us, will we see you there?

I thought I had commented on this post, but maybe not. The Vietnam Veteran's Exhibit should be interesting. It is such a beautiful place.

I like the PacMan apples - they are bright and fun.

Ha, Jennifer Rose. Good idea. Usually the pastel sketches get wiped off for the next sketch.

Bag Blog, the ceremony was very nice. Sort of like a Pow Wow, it got a little long. The speakers were good. The care of the memorial was transferred to NM Department of Veterans Services as of July 1, 2017, and the Memorial is now operated as simply the "Vietnam Veterans Memorial". It is being pushed as a healing place instead of a "State Park". They served Navajo tacos on fry bread after to all the visitors. Louis, Florence, Gene and I went for the whole 4 hours, the bunch of kids came for the last 3 minutes or so, toured the memorial ate and went back to their fun! It was a good day.

Nice job on the tree and rock. Great idea to recycle the boards. Your pacman reference made me laugh. I didn't see it until you pointed it out. Now I will go check out the link.

Thanks, Joan. I recycle most paper and boards when I call it a sketch. Once in a while they come out great and will finish it as a painting.
