Bastrop Sketchers' Day

It was/is cold and blustery as Winnie the Pooh would say.  The sketchers met at the Lost Pines Art Center, which was warm with a coffee shop to boot! Just three of us today, guess it was too cold. http://www.lostpinesartcenter.org/

The Art Center is really amazing.  Check it out on-line and visit in person when you can.

Lucy brought some sea shells.   Nice to sketch something different.  The piece of driftwood is actually a piece of cholla cactus.  She found it on the beach in south Texas.

I sketched with pencil and added ink and watercolor.   Sketch time was about 1.5 hours, and guess what?  I did not take any photos of the center or my models.  Sigh......

Good for you for braving the weather, Jo--the resulting sketch is definitely worth it. Shells can be harder to represent than it might seem, I think, with the curves and various tones and patterns. I also loved your charming Valentine's sketch, posted earlier; your sketch makes Creepy look pretty cute (not creepy at all), but still captures him well.

Mary, thank you so much. We rarely go to a beach so I was happy to see the shells today. The colors were so soft, Pretty to see. Luckily the bad weather for me was just from the car into the building. Ha.

nice shell sketches :)

Jennifer Rose, thanks. I don't have any shells, so it was nice to try something different.

Without my glasses, I thought you had sketched a sleeping dog.

Lou, Gene thought it was a cat! A different arrangement might have helped! Good thing it is a sketch and not a finished painting ... you can never un-see something like that.
