Out with the Bastrop Sketchers

Yesterday was sketching day with the Bastrop Sketchers.  It is good to get out of the house and see other people.  It was a great day, thanks, Lucy!

My day began with an AWT.  That is a waste of time:  a decaf, no fat, latte, purchased at the coffee shop in the Lost Pines Art Center.  (That sounds so weird, it is the Bastrop Fine Arts Guild's updated name.) Saw Michelle, hadn't seen her in ages.

A stop at the Post Office and down to Fisherman's Park.  There was a bus load of kiddos with chaperones and a couple of workers.  I started with a warm up of gesture sketches of the kids and then sketched the Old Iron Bridge, a landmark in Bastrop.

For Scavenger Hunt 495  http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1427002

Number 7, something that runs - kids (children)  They really move fast!  They sat for lunch so got a quick "still" pose.  Micron 01 in the 7 x 10 travel sketchbook.

Number 8, something from your village/town - the Old Iron Bridge and Fisherman's Park.  The bridge crosses the Colorado River.  Micron 05 and watercolor in the 9x 12 watercolor sketchbook.  Gift from Sue in Michigan.  I didn't finish the color on the tree.

It is a very nice park with a stroll along the river where they do Christmas lights.  They also have the fireworks across the river.  The play scape is much larger that what I showed and they have a spray/splash water area for the hot weather.  There is a boat ramp and some benches there to watch the geese.  There are many geese and they can be a bit pesty or pesky??

The tree/trees on the left are really that big and tall.  The two workers are pretty much to scale, you see the lamp post and the large tree on the right.

After sketching we went to Viejo's Tacos for lunch on their deck.  Margarita and fish taco for me.  We visited for a spell as you say in the south.

Then a stop at Art Connections and a visit with Deborah.  The beautiful art there is so welcoming and relaxing.  They are working on the downtown parking area and parking is very limited at the moment.  You should go check it out without all the visitors, the parking wasn't as bad as I expected.

I went for a few groceries to "My HEB" as their ads say.  I definitely miss my HEB when we travel.  Anyway, I must have left the store about 4:15 p.m. or such and got home at 5:00 p.m.  It is about a 15-20 minute drive usually.  They are building a new overpass at HWY 71 and HWY 95.  A real mess and will be for about a year I think.  I avoided the main intersection and still.......

Then back to the porch!  It has been exceptional porch weather!

I hope you are making art!

Reading about your outing was fun. I've been stuck in the house all week with a bad head cold. I'm feeling better today, but still staying home. I like that you had a WAT in the morning and a margarita for lunch! The sketches are fun too. I like the watercolor sketch. It reminds me of a watercolor sketcher that I have been following on FB. I can't come up with his name at the moment, but I will, and I will share it with you.

Ha, I hadn't thought about the coffee and margarita, Bag Blog! The decaf is a carry over from the gluten free time. I'm still trying to not eat so much wheat. Carbs slow me down and maybe wheat is the worst. My stomach appears to be all well!! I had a chicken fried steak the other day. Yahoo!

I love that you are going out with the urban/country sketchers. Sketching is so much fun when done with others and following it with food and margaritas is even more fun. I haven't had one since I saw you. lol

Joan, Thanks. I haven't had many margaritas either. Supposedly some tequila has wheat. I can eat gluten now, but still try not to eat too much wheat. Plus, some aren't so good. Gene makes the best and I am spoiled. This one was about a 6 on a 1-10 scale.
