Shopping Local

Deborah Johnson, owner of Art Connections Gallery Bastrop, posted a thoughtful article about buying local.  I know I am very guilty of shopping on-line, especially on Amazon.  We do eat out a lot, maybe that makes up for part of it, right?  Good to keep tax money local.

Art Connections is "my" gallery where I show work in Bastrop.

And partly contrary to that, I wanted to replace some Bolivian tablecloths and could not buy that locally.  I ordered a large aguayo in November from Bolivia Mall so we would have a red tablecloth for Christmas.  Well, it finally came today.  I also ordered a little nativity scene that did not come.  I will call again tomorrow.  The first package was sent back to Bolivia, probably by Customs.  Took a while for them to reorder, eh?

We went to town today to have breakfast (see, we do eat out .... a lot).  We went to the Post Office and to buy groceries.  There our car battery died and we had to replace it.  Guess that will help our local shopping and be a boost to President Trump's plan to boost the economy.

Downtown looking up Main Street.  This was early before the sun came out.  It was a beautiful day after noon time.

Love that fabric!!! I think I fall into the same pattern as you do. Sometimes it is just easier to sit at the computer (especially with Amazon Prime) instead of shopping locally. I was thinking that the other day and how I should shop more at small local stores. I went to Office Max to have a poster printed for the NYC Women's March and after it was printed I realized I should have gone to my friend a few towns over who has a frame shop and also copies things. I just don't think sometimes.

It is good to buy locally when you can. I don't mind spending a few extra bucks for something local. But when locals are extremely high, I will go somewhere else.

I would love to buy locally more often but we are surrounded by pound stores and charity shops so often don't have any other choice but online :/

Joan, that fabric is amazing. You can wash it in the washing machine and then dry it over and over. Never fades and is about the weight of denim.
I am spoiled with Amazon. So much easier..... Sigh....

Bag Blog, you are right and I think that is more true for small towns with fewer local options.

Jennifer Rose, same situation I imagine. My other problem is I don't like shopping. I send Gene to do the grocery shopping and anything else I can get away with!
