Sketching Walk .. No Dogs, What?

I sketched today for Scavenger Hunt 438  http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1397875
I started in the dining room in the huge sketchbook with a Micron 05.  The list has very simple words that give you leeway and are easy to find ... or not.  The list: cat, dog, frog, bird, horse, pig, bear, fish, rabbit, fruit, vegetable, nut, lolly, egg, biscuit, cup, bowl, plate, jug, teapot, bottle, leaf, flower, twig, tree, rock.

Easy enough, you can use inanimate objects, just so you sketch from life and not from a photo.  I gathered a few knick knacks and plowed right in.  We have little ceramic animals that Gene bought for me in Chile and Bolivia.  They came through our fire and are discolored but OK for memories.

I couldn't find a frog in any of them and don't imagine I will find a real one as it hasn't been raining and I don't go out to the lake at night when I hear them croaking.  So ..

Number 1, frog - I substituted a turtle with a hat
Number 2, bird - a condor
Number 3, pig
Number 4, rabbit - couldn't find a ceramic one and the real ones weren't out so substituted a little mouse
Number 5, cat - some sort of cat on a ceramic flute

Then I decided to go on my walk where there is usually a paint mare near the street and a couple of houses have dogs that come to the fence and bark ferociously.  I would sketch the horse and dogs.  Well, I couldn't believe it!  Not one dog at any of about 4 houses that have dogs.  So weird.  Maybe tomorrow!

Number 6, horse - the mare was in the shade when sleeping, in fact she laid down just as I finished, but it was too shady to see her well for that pose.  On the way back she was grazing in the sunshine.  I have to stay across the street or she will come to the fence.  It is electric so don't like to tease her.  No close up sketches.

Number 1, frog - I was surprised to find a frog sculpture on the walkway a couple of houses down the street, so a bonus!

We have had the most beautiful days, getting up to about 75 degrees. Doors open, sitting on the porch, right?   UT Baseball starts this weekend with the Alumni game.  I can only dream that the weather will hold out.  We usually have some very cold days at the beginning of the season.  Fingers crossed!

Someone posted this link on facebook.  A very interesting short video of a trash sculpture portrait.

I like the sketches, Mom.

And, I love that link. It's amazing to me that there are folks in the world who can do cool things like that. My brain could never come up with that sort of thing!
