Scavenger Hunting and Family Fun

Yikes!  Been a while since I posted.  We were having a good time here in the mountains.

I did sketch in my travel sketchbook in between other things.  They are freehand with a Micron 05 and just a few minutes on each sketch.  I use ink to make me look and put down lines accurately.  Many times I hurry and forget my plan!  At any rate, I did get in a bit of sketching for Scavenger Hunt 418.  http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1386792  You are welcome to join us.  The next Hunt starts tomorrow!  There is a link from this Hunt.

The numbers are off, I was going to count the tape and then decided one item can't count for more than one thing.  Like a red rose cannot count for red and a rose.  So I'm not sure if the tape can be something I'm holding and also tape.  I don't think so.......  So I have six sketches completed, not seven.

Number 1, hand from above and Number 2, hand holding something. (Tape numbered but not counted)

Number 4, texture - part of an afghan
Number 5, snack - Gene usually buys energy bars not granola bars.  Hmmm.

Number 6, frame - a small frame, shadow box for one of the many crosses in the collection in this house.
Number 7, fauna - prairie dog.  We seem to have only one.  They sit very still when they are in "alert mode".  They scurry around but not as fast as the chipmunks and are not as cute.

You can see I sketched these on different days when the others were off doing things I don't do like white water rafting and zip lining.  Ha.

Gene planned zip lining for his birthday, but it was windy and rainy so they cancelled and he had to do it the next day.  On his birthday, he, Larry, Roger (brother), Virginia (sister) and Jena (niece) went rafting.  Larry missed the zip lining as he had to leave on Friday to get to the Hotter 'n Hell bike race in Wichita Falls, Texas.  He didn't mention which event until it was the middle of the race.  Bag Blog and her family always take part.  He could have met them.  Oh well, another time.

This is a selfie Larry took of them on the raft when they were at a slow place.  Hopefully he will send me some action photos.  He has a camera on the side of his head and got some movies.

I think this is the afternoon of the zip lining day.  Nice hard rain in the afternoon when we were all back at the house.

Anxiously waiting to go to the top for zipping!

The take off!  I wouldn't even ride the lift to watch them take off!

And away they go.

Coming back, in two loads.  Hmmm.

Safely down!
It is dangerous or careless to leave food out of houses here.  It can attract bears or raccoons or other unwanted creatures.  We have had  so many magpies around.  We decided to go ahead and put out the over ripe fruit as it should disappear.  We were right, it was gone in about an hour.  There were 15 magpies at one point.  Their color is beautiful but they are pests.
One of the chipmunks went by on the fly.  Picked up an orange and ran for it.  This one was braver and started eating right there.  Then......

The magpie started to him and the chipmunk made a beeline with the orange in his mouth.  He is on the lower left in both photos.  Not too bad for through the looking glass (window).

Hopefully we will get some action shots from the wild times.

It would have been fun to meet Larry. Maybe next time.

All the sketches look good. You get better and better.

The photo of the rain is so nice. I love mountain rain.

Bag Blog, yes, too bad you haven't met Larry. He is pretty neat. (no preference on my part....ha) The rain here is very special. Even when it rains a lot it seems soft coming down. I love it, too. Then the sun comes out and everything is washed. The smell of the rain on the dirt when it starts is amazing, too.

Joan, I stuck with keeping my feet on the ground! They all enjoyed it.

that looks like a heavy rain storm!

glad you are having a good time :D

nicely drawn hands :)

I'd rather do zip lining than rafting lol

Jennifer Rose, thanks.

I'm not up for either zipping or rafting. I think once I'm in I would be OK, just the thought. I always liked the rougher rides at carnivals, like the roller coasters or hammers. I hated Ferris wheels.
