Spring has Sprung - Photos and Sketches for Hunt 399

I have been watching for bluebonnets to come up in the yard.  We had a few last year.  I saw Jimmy Longacre's post  http://jimmylongacre.blogspot.com/2015/04/spring-bling.html  and that reminded me to check and voilà, there they are!  I like his painting, two of my favorite things:  Pear Cactus and Bluebonnets.  They seem to appear by magic.

I took a few photos of my straggley bunches. Hopefully we will get a few more.   They are so neat.   If you are not in Texas and can't see them for yourself, just Google "bluebonnets in Texas" and see how beautiful they are.

Cute bunch in the back yard.

More bluebonnets just outside the fence.

The star, near the middle of the yard.

Another tiny one.

Verbena by the side of the house in front.
My little bunch and some verbena that the lawn mower service gave me after the mowed last years bluebonnets in the front yard.  Pretty but not the same.  Ha.

Before I went hunting the blues, I sketched with my usual tools and usual models.  Just a quick sketch while I had my coffee and my rice cake with peanut butter, cream cheese and raisins.

Number 5, bumpy - the raisins and the lid for the coffee cup
Number 6, smooth - the glass thermal coffee cup
Number 7, crunchy - the rice cake

The red bud trees are blooming here, and they are so pretty. We have been getting some rain, which is good, but we have mowed the lawn twice here and three times at Jesse's new house. Today the wind is howling. Does it sound like spring has sprung?

Joan, you are welcome. They are pretty special.

Bag Blog, oh, I love the red bud trees, too. I took photos of them when we went to an Oklahoma game a few years ago and never painted them. Hmmm. We had our lawn mowed and will let the flowers go now so won't be mowed for a while. We don't have a formal lawn.

I do love seeing the wildflowers come out!

Joanna, I love the wildflowers, too. We have a few more in the back now. A few paint brushes and one primrose. I got your dad and the mowers to leave the yard so think it will deserve a photo in a couple of days. We usually get quite a few of the "yellow junk" as Ladybird used to say. :)
