I have tried to sketch for Scavenger Hunt 373. http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1359370 My sketching has been sporadic, but I managed a few here and there, starting on September 2. They are in the regular sketchbook with Micron 05 and some colored pencil added to some.
Number 1, stuffed animal - I substituted a live animal, Pia, Virginia's little dog.
Number 2, flower - some asters, dandelions and some sort of white flowers.
Number 3, copper - a little lantern hanging in the window.
Number 4, sculpture - a soldier writing a letter home with the inscription on a panel nearby.
The sculpture from a slightly different angle.
Number 5, green leaves or greenery
Number 6, yellow - the yellow ribbons on the Aspen trees
Number 7, favorite rock or gem - the rocks around the fountain and plants at the memorial.
Number 8, fruit
Bonus sketch of the small cemetery at the memorial.
A parade of bucks came by the other afternoon. 11 in all. They are used to people and just strolled by, until......
Pia escaped from the house and chased the first 9 up the hill. I called to her and took off after her. Roger whistled and she stopped, looked at us and came back like a trained cow, uh deer, dog!
The other two came by after that. They were beautiful to see.
The horses for rent to ride and the beautiful flowers again at the intersection of HWY 64 and 434 as you get to Angel Fire.

Nice sketches, Jo! Memorials like that are very emotional...sadness, regret, pride, anger...all those emotions conflicted. Thanks for the photos too.
Joan, you are so right. The first time I visited I expected to feel mostly sad but it is such a beautiful place full of spirit that it is mostly peaceful. They have so many visitors for an out of the way location.
We should have gone to the Memorial while I was there. I never get it all done, sigh.
Love the deer dog.
Bag Blog, we should have gone. The deer dog is so sweet now, she was a pain in the a.. when she was a pup, hence the name PIA. I just knew I had to chase her as she doesn't give up on other animals, calling doesn't help. She was shocked to hear the whistle I guess, but looked just like she was trained. Ha. They left this morning and she was still looking for deer when she went on her walk.
the sky in that last pic is gorgeous :) if it wasn't so far to fly, would love to go there
Jennifer Rose, New Mexico has beautiful skies as it is high and clear. I love being able to see so far. If you can ever make it over, you have a place to stay either here or in Texas!
I've only been to Oregon in the states, would be neat to see more one day :)
Jennifer you are more than welcome to visit us. :) You see Bag Blog commenting on my blog posts, we met via the blogs and now visit in person. Lots of fun!
