Sketching and Little Pastel

Yesterday was a studio day and I avoided my computer until I sketched and painted.  I was ready for the computer well before noon.  I would have stayed away longer, but I did confine my time to art stuff and not other time wasting games, etc.  I never play on-line games but I like to play cards and do word games.  The point being that I am trying to stay off the computer when it is time to be in the studio doing art.

It is difficult for me to have e-mail floating around in the back of my mind, so today I decided I would go back to a previous schedule which worked well.  I think in my case, putting my mind at ease about e-mail helps my studio time.  I wonder....  Anyway, today I sketched while I had my coffee and snack.  Then I spent 15 - 20 minutes on e-mail and going through my blog comments. I did not look at other social media. I took photos of my sketches and painting.  I actually had sun to take the photo of the pastel.  That is the best way for me, no adjusting in Photoshop Elements necessary.

I really like red, as you know.  Day before yesterday, I got out a small Pastelbord and painted some geraniums.  I started with the green board, put some dark colors down and smooshed (official painting word) the pastel around with paint brush and water.  When dry, I began my painting.  I realized at some point that I was being heavy handed and decided to finish the painting yesterday.

Yesterday, I brushed off the pastels then wet the board with a paint brush and water.  New under painting, new start!  I'm happy with it today.

My sketches today were done in the regular sketchbook with the same Prismacolor Premier 03 pen/fine line marker.   We were out on the porch as it was near 70 degrees.  When we went to town at noon it was 61 degrees!

Number 11, tres - three in Spanish, I found these three cups on the rail.

Number 12, head

Number 13, outdoor - a peek in the neighbors yard.

No real studio time this morning because today was the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce Luncheon to thank the police departments and first responders.  I signed Gene and I up for that a few weeks ago.  We enjoyed the lunch catered by Maxine's.  It was good to see and be a part of the celebration.  We have a great caring community.

I love the geraniums Jo - seem to be in a looser style - very nice. I've been struggling with my internet time. You have a good idea there - one email check in the morning and then no going back until the day's art is done. Hmm, I think I should implement something like that. Would be good for me and very good for the art!

Hi Rose, thank you. I understand on the internet time. I tried the advice of not looking at it at all until afternoon, but it hangs in the back of my mind. Limiting it is better for me. At first I set a timer, but when I pay attention I do well. Today is an off day I guess. I spent about an hour looking for something to paint so gave up and am going to work on blogs and newsletter, website, etc. Let me know how it goes. Hugs.

We are so much sisters! This morning I stayed away from the computer. I did get some art stuff done, but the computer is necessary for some things. It starts calling my name. I think your checking email and then doing art is a good idea. Yesterday I started a new painting. It is going well. I'll show it when it is a bit more finished.

Bag Blog, sisters we are! I do have to really work at it to limit my internet. I did it when I had the Gallery and when I work at it. I'm so happy you are painting. I'm going to be painting downtown at Art Connections on Saturday so will have to paint something. Ha.

Joanna, thank you. The little girl that won the door prize on First Friday picked that for her mom. :)
