Are you going to the First Friday Art Walk in Bastrop? The evening is very special and really beginning to be the thing to do on Fridays. Deborah Johnson, painter, at Art Connections has worked hard at organizing the artists and getting the businesses to support the event and host an artist in the different downtown businesses. Begin your evening at Art Connections, 908 Main Street in historic downtown Bastrop, Texas, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m..
Judy Hawes, the jewelry artist that shared my studio space, is the featured artist at Art Connections. She works and shows her beautiful jewelry there. Judy works with gold, silver, copper, semi precious stones, crystal and paintings in designing her creations. This show will feature her new copper line with some twisted copper and stones and fossils. She has also added enamel to some of the copper. Distinctly different and one of a kind pieces. She does much more than string beads together!
I am fortunate to have two pieces at Art Connections, too. They are pastels shown here.
Bastrop Resident, Pastel on Pastelbord, 5 x 7 inches in 3 inch plein air frame. |
Ollas, Pastel on Pastelbord, 18 x 14 inches, framed in black gallery style frame. |
After this, my work at Art Connections will be painted as new work and exhibited there for the first time. Art Connections gives 10% of the sale to a charity, choice of the artist, so my donation would be to the Family Crisis Center in Bastrop. I hope you can get by and see the work by sixty or so artists in Art Connections.
The Bastrop Fine Arts Guild started a few years ago to have the monthly featured artist reception on the First Friday which also brings interest to downtown. This Friday is Bastrop school children artists. The display is interesting and your chance to see some art by very young and budding artists. I have two pastel paintings there as well. The opening show there was Old Bastrop so I had a Yesterfest painting and bluebonnets which are a spring "thang" in central Texas. The Guild has a reception in their new location at 815 Main Street, Bastrop, Texas.
True Blues, Pastel on Pastelbord, 8 x 10 inches in brown wooden frame. |
Yesterfest, Matted on Colourfix paper, 8 x 10 inches in black metal frame. |
Many other artists will be exhibiting at the businesses and R. A. Green Mercantile. Lea Blue has her stylish wildflower and bluebonnet pottery there. She also does chickens and the Lost Pines lines.
The restaurants are open with live music and good food, any type you care to try.
There is no better time to get to know the art scene in Bastrop, Texas. Have fun!
