No News is Good News is Right.....

That did turn out to be true, that no news is good news, 'cause when we got the news it is bad. From two reliable sources we got the word that our house is gone.

We are now gypsies and are homeless. We will stay in New Mexico the rest of the week as our rent is paid! We will be going back to Bastrop to take care of things, check the ruins and do all the paper work. We had been considering moving sometime so we didn't have to cope with so many stairs and now the decision was made for us.

Thanks to Joanna for watching out for us. She and Jennie will probably be the first to see how bad it is when they finally let folks in. Probably be next week as the fire is still burning and hot spots all around. Again, we are more fortunate than most as we have some things with us here.

I have only praise for the firefighter and first responders. I am thrilled and happy for the families that their homes survived the fire. I feel so sorry for the folks that lost their homes and businesses.

I will let you know where we will be hanging our hats! Thanks to all for the kind offers. Guess we could just travel the country and stay two weeks here and two weeks there and wouldn't have to pay rent for a couple of years. :)

A few photos of our place....

The back yard about a year ago.

The flags in the snow, February 2011.  Snow is rare in Bastrop!

Antique Murphy Bed, folding bed, made in 1863, was my grandmother's on my Dad's side.

Coming down the drive to the house.  We finally had it paved this year.  Ha.

Jo, I was thinking of you when we saw the news of the fire on tv. I know you're grateful to have your lives and some "essentials" such as art supplies and golf clubs, but it's still hard to lose cherished possessions.

I don't know your religious persuasions, but if you're Christian, just remember Job. He did have problems but God restored him to way more than he had to begin with!

I know you only lost "things" but those things had lots of memories and will be missed. But I am so glad you and Gene were safe and had some things with you. Let me know if there is anything I can do. Toby and I could build you another house - we use the six year plan. Would that be okay?

Jo! So sorry about your loss. So glad that you are safe. It has been sad to see the fires in Tx.
My daughter is north of Austin.

Jan, thanks for thinking of us. We are much luckier than some. Your good thoughts keep us going.

Bag Blog, my smile for the day! That is a good plan for rebuilding as we don't have a plan, maybe we could figure it out in 6 years. :) Thanks for your caring.

Peggy, glad your daughter is safe, thanks for the good thoughts.

Rosemary, we are thankful for friends and your prayers. :)

Oh, Jo, I'm so sorry, I had been hoping that your home might have been spared since Joanna wasn't able to confirm at first that it was gone. But glad you and Gene were in NM when it happened, since there was nothing you could do here and at least you had some of your things with you. A small blessing.

Be safe on your way home, love and good thoughts to you.

Sorry to be so late posting here, we were relaxing. :) (That means eating and drinking wine, don't you know?)

Regina, thank you so much. You two are the best.

Rose, thank you. Your friendship has meant so much.

Buck, thanks for thinking of us. When you live in the forest ..... You live in tornadoes and dust, right? :) Thanks again.

Susan, thank you. We are happy that we are safe and have a few things. Others not so lucky as you know. Your good thoughts keep us going.

Sorry to hear your worst fears confirmed Jo

It's never good to lose the things which help us with our memories.

Thank goodness for digital photos and being able to archive them away from home!

Hope you get the paperwork and "what happens next" sorted soon.
