Pastel Painting, Dogs in the Trifecta!

I wanted to paint something as a gift for friends in Mexico. Gene encouraged me to paint their little dogs. We took some bad photos when we were there last time. I hope these pastel paintings please them. We think they look like the doggies.

I painted them to fit the frame. Gene cut the Art Spectrum Colourfix paper to fit the frame. I like to do that when it is a mat with multiple openings. The paper can be put in behind the mat and nothing moves. No taping and trying to get each small painting lined up in the mat openings. Actually, I like to do all matted pastels this way. It takes a little extra paper, but you don't have to worry about the painting coming loose from the mat or backing. Just put it in, make sure it is snug and seal the back well. You can see a few other samples of this framing technique here.

Each painting is 5 x 7 inches. They are two chihuahuas and a little poodle mix, I think. The poodle was the wild one!

Here is the framed version. Taken at a real angle to avoid the glare, but you get the idea.

You did a great job on the dogs - I like the three in one frame/mat. Your friends will love it.
