I painted them to fit the frame. Gene cut the Art Spectrum Colourfix paper to fit the frame. I like to do that when it is a mat with multiple openings. The paper can be put in behind the mat and nothing moves. No taping and trying to get each small painting lined up in the mat openings. Actually, I like to do all matted pastels this way. It takes a little extra paper, but you don't have to worry about the painting coming loose from the mat or backing. Just put it in, make sure it is snug and seal the back well.
