Plein Air at McKinney Falls

Sue and I made it to McKinney Falls to paint out today with our pastels. It was a great day for being out and enjoying some painting time with each other. We get to see each other one or two times a year. It is always inspiring and energy flows. She left Michigan in the snow yesterday and today here, it was about seventy degrees F. or so. Super.

After painting for about two and a half hours, we went in to Austin to meet with some of the Austin Pastel Society members for a quick meeting about the Annual Juried Show. Then we went to Jerry's Artarama for a run through and spent a few bucks .. you can never have enough pastels, right? You just have to think about how much you saved not how much you spent!

At McKinney Falls, upper falls, water fall is tiny spot on left.

Sue, just getting started.

Jo, (me)

Sues painting pastels in panoramic drawing book, really a nice big sketchbook!

A quick painting I did of Sue, about fifteen, twenty minutes.

Jo's (my) painting. I think my rocks look like snowbanks. Hmmm.

It looks like you two are having a great time. Rocks are always difficult for me - you did great.

Let's see, plein air painting, a friend, a pastel society art show, and new pastels.....It doesn't get any better than that

Bag Blog, thanks, my rocks need more work. If I go back and finish them, I will post it. :)

Rose, Thank you, that is kind of what I thought. Today was interesting, we painted sunflowers. A little change. Ha!

Joan, thanks so much. We do have fun. Painted today again, but too late to post!

Nancy, how right you are! This my art emersion week!

Sounds like you are having a wonderful time! Good for you.

Plein air painting sounds like a lot of fun. Guess if you're a CP person you'd have to set up housekeeping as slow as CP's are!

Teresa, Heh, heh. :) Guess you are going to have to adapt to pastels or just sketching. It is great for the heart!

Hmmm.... I'm sure I need to start sketching on a regular basis.

BTW - When you have a moment, please pop over to my blog... there's a simple, easy award there for you and your lovely blog!

Teresa, Hi. Sketching is my chore. It is not a favorite as I am basically lazy. If I sketch for fun, I tend to do a landscape as no one knows what it looks like, right? That is why I do the Scavenger Hunts, it guilts me into sketching new things and things I would pass by, honing my skills.

I will drop over and see what you gave me. Thanks. :-)

I have enjoyed seeing your art work and see you are so talented at landscapes, which makes me really value the compliment you gave me about my first landscape. So thank you.

Hi Milly, thank you so much and for stopping by. Your painting was a great start and your quilts are just wonderful. :)

That location looks like it'd be an absolute blast.

Where is McKinney Falls, exactly?

Was it a bit cold? Looks like a nice day, though.

Good job.

Hi Kristopher, thanks for checking in and taking time away from your portrait painting. McKinney Falls is right in Austin, the southeast corner. It was not cold, last week was a record breaking week of warmth. So lovely. We only saw about 10 people, guess they were all working and at school. So excellent place. Very dry, though and that is scary. Had a big fire next door to us yesterday. All fine here, though.
