Sunsets and Photos

Fishing Guy, Tom in Ohio, is in a group that takes pictures of the sky on Fridays. It is Skywatch Friday. A very interesting blog with sky photos from all over the world. I am of course, amazed as I thought only sunsets in New Mexico, Texas and the southwest were the best! I mean that sincerely.

Here is a photo from last Friday and Tom thought it would be a good fit with my painting below. Here is another he took some time previously. Great photos, eh. Check out Tom's beautiful photos and some fishing stories on his blog.

This is a sunset from last Friday in Ohio.

This is the same lake, I think, a few blogs ago. Wow. Ohio is beautiful, right?
Both photos are copyright of Tom's, used with his permission.

And here is my little painting, simple in comparison. My conclusion is that sunsets are so special.

My mom took photos of sunsets from the time she had a camera. She had a Brownie that was a black box shape. It was somewhat like this one, so must have been from the early 1930s. As it got older she had to put tape around it to keep the light out after she loaded the film, but it took beautiful sunsets. These are a couple she took in February, 1970, just before she had to quit using that camera.

She was taking the airplane contrails in this one at Red Lake Ranch. The ranch house is there, too. You can see a little light sneaking in.

There is a lot of light sneaking in here. Taken at Red Lake with the loading chute in the background.

Here is that same photo, cropped. She couldn't color correct and crop in those days. Very nice, huh?

Joanna keeps on with the tradition, too. Go to her Photobox and scroll down to July 25. Beautiful. You can also find some family sunsets on Larry's page under landscapes. Pretty cool.

I thank our maker for beautiful sunsets and beautiful memories! And I thank my mom for getting us started taking the sunset photos.

The sunset photos and paintings are beautiful. Jesse and I take a few sunset photos now and then. Maybe I need to paint one.

Lovely photos... and thanks for the reminder that inspiration for a painting is right outside my front door!

Bag Blog, Thank you. You should paint some sunsets. They aren't as easy as they seem. I have painted a half dozen or so.

Teresa, thank you, too. Now that we live in the trees I have to get away from my back door. :)

Jo - I love sunsets!!! I've been known to pull the car off the road in places just to sit and watch what I glimpsed in my rear-view mirror. Great photos by family & friends!

Jo: Thanks for showing my photos. Sunsets and sunrises are so fleeting. I love them all and really enjoy taking sky photos. I still want to see you marry the the photo and your painting.

Your mother took wonderful sky photos also. It is wonderful to look back.

fishing guy, maybe that is one reason sunsets are so amazing, because they are fleeting. One of the best we ever saw was by Roswell, New Mexico, and didn't have a camera. Many years ago. The sky was orange, gold and deep turquoise with purple. We still talk about it.
