After the wipe off painting day before yesterday, I was all set to paint more today. We went and walked nine holes of golf and it was so beautiful. Up to almost 60 degrees. We came back and my plan was to paint. I looked at the mail and we had the invitation to the Family Crisis Center Annual Dance and Fundraiser. I always paint a new painting to donate for this, so decided to plan that out. The theme is Shipwrecked, so I have been looking for ocean views. That took a while. We are not near the ocean so will have to rely on photos. We have a few from Canada so I spent the afternoon reminiscing as well. End result no painting. But, I do have a plan for a painting.
The new Scavenger Hunt 116 is up and running, so dropped in there for the new list. Found my number 1, favorite treat - wine, coffee and chocolate. You should all know that by now. This was with the Micron 05 and took about 10 minutes. The cup is from the Texas Work Force, given to me at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon.
If you are new to my blog, I sketch freehand with ink normally. I like that it is immediate and I can't change it, well, not much. When I am at my best, I try to look well and sketch with a firm line quickly. It is practice for painting to me. Then when I paint, especially plein air (live, outside) I can get the image and light down quickly before the light changes. The sketching does help and it is good practice for drawing accurately. I tend to be lazy and not work out a plan. I am impatient and get bored if I have to go over and over something so this quick sketching helps me paint quickly, too, after having a good look and then put down the correct lines.
If you are interested, this post explains why I join in on the Scavenger Hunts on wetcanvas.com There are many sketches on this blog (good and bad) and other sketching thoughts. Just put sketches in the search box top left and you will find plenty. We are on Hunt 116 and I started on number 3, I think, and the Hunts are every nine days. I suppose I average 7 sketches a Hunt plus a few not on the Hunts. Have fun!
**Note, I found a wonderful blog with art and humor. Kellie Marian Hill, acrylic paintings and a happy outlook! Thanks Kellie for stopping by my blog.
I am an artist that paints in pastels, with some oils, and acrylics. I sketch in pen and ink. As an artist my original paintings are influenced from living in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Bolivia, Peru and Chile, and travels throughout much of Canada and all our fifty States. This is my spot for posting paintings and sketches, to muse mostly about art, life and a little about UT Baseball.

Keep nudging us non-sketchers with the advantages of sketching... may get us (me!) off our duffs one day!
Re: Coffee, wine and chocolate. I agree. Divine foods surely :-)
Hi Teresa, Posting about sketching has made me sketch more. I am lazy about it and tend to sketch the same "easy" things. Landscapes that don't have things people recognize. The Hunts offer things I wouldn't normally sketch and make you think about how they look. A toilet or spoiled food come to mind. Ha.
Along with watercolors, I think think ellipses are just waiting for us to try them and screw up - but you did a great job on these!!
Hi Regina, you made me laugh at this. You are right, of course. Watercolors are very intimidating. All perspective is my nemesis, but ellipses seem to be the number one problem. :)
