Hill Country Autumn Finish and Taking Photos

The Hill Country Autumn is finished and in Gene's hands for framing. That makes four paintings for the 12 Buy 12 show.

Hill Country Autumn
Pastel, 12 x 12 inches on Pastelbord

It is always nice to have the paintings framed and ready. I have to make the cards and update my inventory data base. There is always more paperwork than I care to deal with, but that is the way it is. The work is accepted for the show, but more paperwork to complete for that, too.

Taking a good photo of the paintings is always a challenge. The photographer side of me tries to get it straight, centered and the right setting in the camera. I have a Exilim, 7.2 mega pixels, Casio, pocket camera. That is what I use and it works well. For my snapshots of sketches and blogging it is great. I put it on a tripod for these photos. For me, taking photos of pastel paintings works best in direct sunlight. Very little manipulation is needed to have nice photos. The color is great.

Living in the piney woods makes it difficult to find a sunny spot in the yard with no tree limbs making shadows. This was my dilemma today:

This way?? No, lots of shadows.

Here?? No way!

Ah, there is a spot way over there. Hurry before the light changes.

The light changes so quickly that I didn't even get a shot of my setup in the direct sun. This is what happens otherwise. :(

You just need to bite the bullet and walk up to the road!

PS: I like the painting. :)

Joanna, too funny. Walk up and set up in the road in all the traffic?? It works out. You will have to photo the one/s for the APS juried show. :)

Love the Hill Country Autumn picture!
All four that you will have at the 12 buy 12 are great.

Love the feet! I bet you sell tham all. Let us know how it goes, and have a 'toast' for me!

Hi Leslie! Thank you so much, I will toast for you. Wish we could get together for a dual toast. Maybe next summer......sigh.

Such a challenge! I do like the idea of photographing the pastelwork in direct sunlight. I have been photographing my oil paintings at an angle because the flash reflects off the sheen of the oil. I want to photograph them without a flash, and could do so with my Nikon 35 mm, and I think a sunlight shot is a great idea!

Hi Marie, The pastels do great in sun. Oils don't seem as friendly, a little glare usually. I usually take them in the shade and adjust color, but maybe a slight angle would take care of the glare and then use a photo program to straighten them up. Let me know....

I don't have the shade problem here on the prairie. I really like this painting and hope that you do well in the show.

bag blog, guess you have the opposite problem, no shade when it is hot! I miss the sunsets right here at the house, have to get out of the trees to see them! Thanks.
