Empty Easel has an article, "The Focal Point Debate: Should Every Painting Have a Focal Point?" by Dianne Mize, about whether focal points are necessary. One of Susan Carlin's paintings is used for an example. Very nice, Susan! More of your well deserved recognition. Nice job.
Oh, and the article has useful information to make you think about your own painting designs.

Since I'm going to have dinner now, I can't read the article, but I sure will.
Composition is not my middle name and when talking about focal points, well....I really don't see why there should ALWAYS be one.
We'll see after reading the article.

Hi José, You are right about focal points. They can be an aid to helping the eye move in a painting, but some paintings don't require a focal point, they are the focal point, right? Thanks for checking in.
