Hunt 99 Sketches with Pen and Ink

More sketching for Scavenger Hunt 99. I sat out on the back deck for the pen and ink sketches and came in to the dining room for the colored pencil sketch.

This Hunt has a challenge to use various media. I cling to the pen as it is faster for me. You see the colored pencil sketch is very vague, I just won't sit and color for 30 more minutes. Ouch. Using the pen is somewhat like painting with pastels for me. You make a line and it is done! No waiting for anything to dry (well, the ink takes 5 seconds, I suppose) and no brushes to clean and put away. You can save the dust and make more pastels from it. For someone like me, pen and ink and pastels are the best.

I do like to get out the paints once in a while. Oil and acrylic paintings are easier and less expensive to frame. Oil paints have such a great feel to them. I like blending them and painting wet into wet. They are vibrant and exciting. They take some time to dry, up to months if you paint with thick paint. I just don't like the fumes and the cleaning up after. Acrylics are nice, as clean up is with soap and water. I find they dry darker so I am learning to adjust for that. You can use them like watercolor or thick like oils. You have to work fast to blend because they dry so quickly. (I haven't tried the new Golden paints that dry slower, so you can blend, etc.)

Back to the sketches. They took about 10-15 minutes each. I don't keep track of the time. I used a Micron 05 pen for all except the last, number 10 and 11, which is the colored pencil.

Number 6, broken. I sketched the broken window on the shed out back.

Number 7, vast. The sky and clouds out back.

Number 8, near. I was drinking coffee from the cup Jennie gave me to take on our trips.

Number 9, movable. The covered grill on the deck.

Number 10, folds and Number 11, twisted. The drapery in the dining room and the tie back.

I like the cup - nice strong lines and shading. And the drapes! Using color there? It's so good to do this every day - thanks for the inspiration!

Regina. Thank you. The challenge was to use different media. I asked if a different pen counts. Colored pencil looks so nice and is sooooo slow for me. I did like it better on Pastelbord, but didn't want to use that just for sketching for the Hunts. The Hunts keep me sketching.
