Alive and Kickin'

I am still around. Joanna came and we went to the Gila Cliff Dwellings and the Catwalk. It was hard to post with Joanna visiting and now we are in Albuquerque to visit Gene's Mom.

I sketched one more for Scavenger Hunt 96, but didn't get it posted for the deadline. That is just the way I am. Drat. It was #4, truck. This is the pickup.

Wow, is it difficult to sketch automobiles free hand and quickly? This took about an hour and is not very accurate in size. The middle of the back window of the truck part is about the middle of the pickup bumper to bumper so the front should cut off about the front of the fender opening. Wow. You can see my lines where I shortened it a little as it was. Oh well, good practice. I used a Pilot ball point pen in my Cachet Studio Blank Book. That was done on August 8.

Next is a sketch from the Gila Cliff Dwellings that we visited with Joanna. You can see more from a couple of trips here.

I did the sketch with the Pilot pen in the sketchbook mentioned above. I started to color it with colored pencil and then decided to take a photo before I got too much done to show the difference. The sketch was about 15 minutes while Gene and Joanna looked around the caves/rooms. Coloring also took about 15 minutes. Hmmm.

The Cliff Dwellings from the trail.

One of the rooms.

The next day we went to the Catwalk. Here are a few photos for proof. No sketches.

Gene and Joanna near the top/end of the trail.

The new and improved trail. When we visited in the late fifties it was a board track and very shaky and scary, because I don't like heights.

Waterfall about half way along.

Omigosh, Jo! Where is this place? I'd love to see it. And I'd love to see you! Glad you're back to posting anyway.

Hi Susan, It is only 44 miles from here but takes about 2.5 hours because of the switch backs and narrow road to the Cliff Dwellings, then the Catwalk is about 70 miles. Both in the Gila Wilderness. So cool. I'm still going to be sketchy on posting, no pun, as we don't have great internet until we get back to Silver City on Wednesday. We are in Albuquerque now. Probably won't be around for painting with you tomorrow. :(

It was great fun visiting with y'all for a couple of days. I loved seeing the cliff dwellings and catwalk. It made me think I really need to explore that kind of stuff around Austin a bit.

Hi Joanna, We enjoyed to the max or whatever the saying is now. :) I'm sure there is lots of neat stuff around Austin. We never did much exploring here in NM when we lived here either. Hmmmm.

Jo: I love the truck sketch. The photos of the trip are neat.

bag blog, The Gila Cliff Dwellings are about the same as Bandelier except smaller if you have been there. Not as many ladders. Pretty neat at any rate.

fishing guy, thanks. You always make me smile. :)
