Quick Pastel Painting, Piney Woods

I was reading Susan Carlin's post about painting quickly as an exercise. It dawned on me that I haven't given a demo in a while and needed to see if I was "up to" a quick one. I taped down my paper and set the timer for an hour.

I started to do a watercolor under painting and decided it would take too long, so I switched to a pastel spread with water under painting. I dried it with a hair dryer and then started in. No progress photos. (I will get Janice, friend photographer, to take some at the actual demo.)

I wasn't going to post this photo of the painting here, but decided to just go ahead and do it. I did this from a photo and cropped and moved items and will do the same with a different photo for the demo. I finished in 40 minutes, so with some talking and answering questions, I should fill an hour, right?

Pastel, 9 x 12 inches

What a hoot to come see what you're up to and find that you've mentioned me! Thanks, Jo. Except I was working less than half the size you did. 5x7 vs. your 9x12. You win! Your painting is full of color and variety and you can definitely fill an hour, no problem.

Hi Susan, Challenges are fun. Too bad we don't take time for more. Thanks for the kind words.
