This is the start of an acrylic, 11 x 14 painting, of an old adobe house in Magdalena. I started it yesterday. It is unusual, in that, it has green weeds, trees and flowers. It did rain in New Mexico this summer!
I painted a good while this afternoon and made more progress. I will take another photo in the morning. Light with flash and indoors isn't ideal to take a photo. Acrylics dry darker than you paint, so there may have to be some more color adjustment. The roof on the house in the back was too dark and I adjusted some. I will check again in the morning. To give depth and interest to a painting the background items need to be lighter and cooler. The wall may be too yellow as well. I want the main house and the yellow flowers to be the interest. The lightest lights and the darkest darks should be in the center of interest. You can see in the black and white version that right now the rear house has the lightest and darkest values.
I worked on the portrait as well, almost done, but again not great light for the photo. Also have to work on her jaw a little more. When you work on something with no breaks, you need to step back and look with a new eye and the jaw is what we discovered. My live in critic and I. :)
