Quick note. Texas won the Regionals. Yay!!!
Joanna put up her notes for today here.
We all were talking about last year and the 25 inning game! Any baseball fan would want to have a look at some wonderful stats and the rundown check Joanna's page for that here.
This was a snippet: "I love how the game started with Travis Tucker hitting a lead-off single. He did not get another hit for almost 7 hours. And, that was the last hit of the game. Lovely bookends."
The official texassports.com story here for today.
I hope I got a couple of good photos. The game was super!!!! "The Eyes of Texas are upon you..........." So cool when the whole stadium sings. Wow. They also did the Texas! Fight! at one point. One side of the stadium yells, "Texas!" and then the other side yells "Fight" . It wasn't when Texas was on offense like it should have been, but fun to hear anyway! I can't imagine that at the football games with 80,000. Tonight about 7,000.
All in all a good day, even if it was about 95 with a 10 degree heat index so it feels 105. Poor players! Rice had to play two games, ah well. Better them than Texas.
Next weekend on to the Super Regionals for the best two out of three games. Hook 'em Horns!
By the way, I put a calendar page on here at the top. So far I only have the July show in New Mexico, but I will shortly add more items. You can check there for art events and notes.
I'll be at the studio tomorrow after noon. Stop in and see the new balloon paintings!
I am a painter working in pastels, with some oils, and acrylics. I sketch in pen and ink. As an artist my original paintings are influenced from living in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Bolivia, Peru and Chile, and travels throughout much of Canada and forty-nine of our fifty States. This is my spot for posting paintings and sketches, to muse mostly about art and a little about golf and UT Baseball.

Baseball Photos Regionals in Austin
Wow, what a day. We went to the first game a little late. It was so hot today. Muggy, too. Rice was playing LA Lafayette, the Ragin' Cajuns. The Cajuns pitcher, Zach Osborne, pitched a shutout against Rice. Rice has been a high scoring and hitting team and everyone was surprised. Lafayette won 1-0. Whew. Lafayette had a noisy and supportive crowd. Much louder than the Rice bunch. That was a surprise, too.
Texas won their game, 11-0, against Rider. Brandon Workman pitched the shut out, too. I wonder if that is a record of some sort to have back to back shutouts. Hmmm. We were so happy after the Big 12 Tournament disappointments. That was all forgotten tonight!
Introductions of Rider players and the Longhorns.
The crowd. Around 7,000 folks. Rider had appeared before a crowd of 500 or so, never a big bunch. They are here from New Jersey and had only a few supporters in the crowd. A few parents perhaps? I'm sure there were some LA Lafayette and Rice fans rooting for them. The starting Rider pitcher got a big hand from the Texas crowd when he was relieved.
I don't imagine they count the folks outside under the tents and on the buses. :)
Brandon Workman throwing. Not a great photo, but I love the shadow.
Cohl Walla getting a hit.
Cohl Walla arriving on first base.
Russell Moldenhouer hit a home run over the bus or just between the bus and the lift to the left of the 375 sign. It landed just in front of the white car. That is across the street past the bus. Wow!
Final Score, Rider 0, Texas 11. Look at the temperature in the upper left. 87 still about 9:00 p.m. Hot!
Hook 'em Horns!
Gene's alma mater, New Mexico got a win over Stanford today, too. Go Lobos! Ah, Louisville won, too! Our grandchildren go there!

Art Note and Texas Baseball Hosts Regionals
I went to the studio today and painted on two little pastels of balloons in Albuquerque. It rained all day so I didn't get a photo.
It was super quiet with very few walk in visitors. I did quite a bit of work that way. First I changed out my window display which involved moving several paintings around and the jewelry. I moved all my small paintings, Jo's Notions, to one shelf. They had been mixed in with the cafepress stuff and the jewelry, etc. I decided the original paintings need their own spot. I will make a sign for them as well.
I cleaned the window and swept. I cannot believe how many cigarrette butts are left on the sidewalk. Smokers do not think cigarettes are trash I guess.
I also painted the back of some Masonite boards. I only had black paint there, so they are black. It doesn't matter, it is just to seal the backs. I will then put on gesso and get them ready for either acrylic or oil painting. I had to put my pastels away so I could use the table so I also straightened up the shelves in my storeroom.
I brought home two paintings and some frames for Gene to change around. He has been busy with framing and re-framing for the show in New Mexico.
Tomorrow evening is the First Friday art event in Bastrop. There is no art in my near future, though!
This weekend is the NCAA Regional Tournaments for the beginning of the Road to Omaha for the College World Series. Texas is hosting Rider, LA Lafayette and Rice. The first game tomorrow is LA Lafayette and Rice. Texas and Rider play in the evening. It is a very exciting time for the team and fans. Rice should be the toughest opponent of the three. They have really been hitting the ball! Last year the Saturday game for Texas went 25 innings for an all time record. We were out for a looooooong time that day. You can check my post about it here.
The crowds were big last year. It is supposed to be near 100 degrees F. as well. Ouch! Well, now they are saying 93 degrees, big difference, right? It will be humid after raining all night last night and today. We will simmer.... I hope the day goes well and the Horns win in a regular, fast, nine inning game! Hook 'em Horns!

Chicken and ... Tortilla Soup and Blue Window
Yesterday I sketched a chicken for wetcanvas.com, the Southwest Forum, June Monthly Challenge. This is pastel, 6 x 6 inches on Pastelbord. I will wipe it off and go with another painting, though, it was fun for practice. Thanks, Sandra, for the photo.

I went down yesterday and forgot my keys. I had to park about a block away and carry some heavy art books that I wanted to put in my studio. I thought, Gene's keys are in the pickup so started back to get them. Then I realized, I was in the Explorer. Gene was coming to town so he brought the keys. I had about an hour to wait so I read one of my art books, Helen Van Wyk's Favorite Color Recipes. She was an excellent teacher for color. I have some old tapes (VCR) from PBS shows with her programs and they are very instructive. It is good to refresh my brain once in a while.
I also finished up a small pastel for the New Mexico show in July. I painted it from the veggies I bought for a class.

This will be at my show at Peppers in July. (Send me an e-mail for purchase information.) The painting is darker on the left in real life, more mysterious regarding the flowers.
I also got a photo of the Blue Window which is also for the New Mexico show.

This was fun to paint. I love how pottery and old walls look in pastels. Maybe that is because I love pottery.
Now off to the studio to paint.

Look at Magdalena Elementary School
The elementary school in Magdalena, New Mexico, has made the news. That is my hometown school. It is not in the building used when we were in school but this is quite a big deal it seems.
The article starts out, "The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), in cooperation with the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), is pleased to announce that since the official launch of the National Elementary Honor Society™ (NEHS), thirteen schools from across the country have requested to participate in the new program."
Very nice for our small town.
