I think that the New Mexico high, cool mountains are still an unknown to some folks. Some folks think of New Mexico as desert and Santa Fe or Albuquerque. We are in Angel Fire and the way it looks here, this could be somewhere else in the more northern Rocky Mountains. Of course, it is the southern Rocky Mountains.
I painted plein air today for a couple of hours while Gene tried out a new bike. He is trying a road bike versus his mountain bike that he has over 20,000 miles on. I hope it works so that he can go longer distances a little faster. He wants to ride 100 miles on his birthday. Crazy, eh??
This is a scene along side the golf course. I like the fence as is zig zags down the canyon.
It was pretty warm and sunny, so I made my own shade with the tailgate. The light didn't change too much. The clouds changed a lot!
I am so pleased that I was able to pare down my equipment to one load to carry to the car, including my drinks and snacks. Usually I have to make several trips. I did spill water in my bag so had to put the towel and apron out to dry.
This is a photo of the scene. I used artistic license and moved the closer trees on the left into the painting.
You can see more photos of our trip on my Picassa albums here.
I am an artist that paints in pastels, with some oils, and acrylics. I sketch in pen and ink. As an artist my original paintings are influenced from living in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Bolivia, Peru and Chile, and travels throughout much of Canada and all our fifty States. This is my spot for posting paintings and sketches, to muse mostly about art, life and a little about UT Baseball.

This is very nice Jo. I like the foreground,... it almost looks like reflections.
Do you plan to use it for a larger painting? I was surprised to see it's only a 5 x 7".
Hi Johanne, thank you. I rarely do anything again. I will use things I noticed or learned in another scene. I do want to turn the other way at the same spot and do the fence as it goes on down the valley in a wider/landscape format. Larger I could do more detail in the fence which is interesting to me. Sort of square logs.
Great painting.
Thank you, Joanna. I will go larger for the next one. :)
I really like your plein aire painting.
Toby and I are getting ready for the HHH in Wichita Falls at the end of the month. I will only do 25 miles, but Toby may do more. Toby thinks the road bikes are much faster, but we do still ride our mountain bikes some. Toby did buy larger tires for his road bike since he had had several flats lately. There is the Enchanted Circle Bike ride in Sept. It starts in RR and goes around the circle. It may be cooler in the mountains, but I think the steep roads would be killers. And the downhills...!
Bag Blog, thank you. I enjoy painting from life much more than painting from photos. The closest I get to bikes is taking photos. I have no balance ..
What fun, the scenery looks lovely Jo. You have such a strength with your plein air paintings, and the sketches, I love them!
Rae
Thanks, Rae. It is beautiful, lots of green. You know how that is. :) I like plein air.
Hello again Jo, You seem to be enjoying your travels, I think all plein air paintings are exciting and emotive because the artist is in direct contact with the subject and communicates at a higher energy level. Your work demonstrates this and I am very happy for you. I am always pleased when you leave a comment about my own efforts and thank you for that. Best wishes Roger
Hi Roger, thank you for your note. A pleasure to hear from you across the pond. :)
