Sketches and Wildflowers and Pastels

It was supposed to be stormy this afternoon.  So far not much.  We've had less than .2 inch of rain.

We started out on the porch with our coffee this morning.  I sketched in the BookFactory sketchbook with a Micron 03.

The wildflowers are really blooming but the grass is so high that they are hard to see.  Beautiful anyway.

Over the fence looking South.

The Dandelions are pretty with sort of a double layer of petals.

The Indian Paintbrushes are still blooming.  The Bluebonnets have headed out.

A mixture, you can see how many are there but the green overpowers them.  There are Indian Blankets and some Black Eyed Susans and ??

These little Wine Cups are my favorite in color.  Deep magenta.  They are only about 4 inches high and an inch or so in diameter.  Beautiful...

We saw several patches on Highway 21 going toward Paige that were so beautiful, mostly yellow but no where to stop to get photos.

My granddaughter sent a link to a video about how Roché pastels are made.  Very interesting.  They are quite expensive and you can see why.  Completely hand made by two women.

The one place I looked on line was $109 for 5.  I have paid up to $5 for a pastel stick, but you probably won't see me trying one of these.

Fun to see the video on YouTube.  Thanks, Christy!

It is really green around here, and the pond is full. Toby and I did the Lawton Arts for All Festival. It was beautiful Friday and Saturday, but it rained all day Sunday. Still, we had one of the best selling weekends ever.

I saw on Facebook that Natasha Isenhour now has a set of her favorite Terry Ludwig pastels that you can purchase. What an honor!

bag blog, Congrats on sales!! Woohoo! Lots of work, too. I'm smiling for you.

Natasha is going to town, so good. I didn't get to see her in Austin. :-(

Nice to see you here, hugs.

What a fascinating video about those pastels. I never use pastels, but it is wonderful to see the pigments and the love that these two ladies have for continuing to create something so lovely. Thanks for sharing this. I plan on sending it to several pastel artists I know.

Joan, the pastel video was great. Just the two ladies makes them super expensive. Beautiful to see like candy. Thanks.

I forwarded this to several people I know, and everyone loved it. One friend who is also a pastel artist knows of them, but the price is outrageous...although I can understand how priceless they are.

Joan, the pastels sound so good. I wonder just how different they can be. They seem to take great care to make them all the same. I have bought name brand pastels that have one that is crumbly and one that has hard pieces in it, etc. Happy they enjoyed the video.
