Medical day! We had our teeth cleaned at Spring Street Dental. Such a friendly and good dentist office. Efficient, friendly and fair charges. I started to sketch there, but they call you in on time so didn't finish the Peace Lily plant.
From there to PT for Gene. No sketching.
From there we had planned to go to San Marcos to meet friends, but they couldn't make it so we went to lunch at Grace Millers. It is in an old reworked building. Texas food?? Chicken fried steak, fried or grilled catfish and shrimp, special of day (today was meatloaf), burgers, etc. I had a Carlotta. It is a play on Frito pie, but if you've ever had Frito pie in New Mexico with New Mexico red chile , this doesn't hold a candle. This is a substitute ... it does have Fritos. I sketched there. They brought our food quickly so had a hurried sketch below the plant on a page in the travel sketchbook.
These are for Scavenger Hunt from life 109 https://creativespark.art/threads/scavanger-hunt-from-life-109-april-1-9.6738/
Number 3, plant. I didn't finish and couldn't see the pot it was in. I sketched with the Acurit 03 pen.
Number 4, above eye level, decorations in the cafe. Children size shelf on the wall with small cups, saucers and pitchers. The plates are white with red designs.
The old wood on the wall was turquoise. Now it is brown, gray and some of the blueish stain. The little shelf is turquoise painted wood and the plates were white with red designs. Wrought iron light hanging from the ceiling. Maybe a photo is in the future.....

Now that you've mentioned all the colors I feel like you're teasing us. lol Don't think I've ever had Frito pie. What's in it besides Fritos?
Joan, ha, thanks. The restaurant is an old building with antique/old decorations. Pretty neat. I'll get photos one of these days. The original Frito Pie (isn't a pie at all.) was a personal size bag of Fritos, slit on the long side, then add New Mexico red chile sauce, grated cheese, chopped onions, lettuce and tomatoes. The chile made the Fritos soften a bit to have a sort of taco or enchilada feel. Why "pie" I don't know. Here in Texas you usually get some Fritos in a bowl, canned chile and nacho cheese on top and that is it. The Carlotta has lettuce, tomatoes and onions on a plate surrounded by Fritos, a bit of canned chile on top, grated cheese and then salsa??? So not very near the original in taste. Nothing is like New Mexico chile.
Sounds like a Frito nacho bag to go!
Joan, yes we would get them at the local drive-in: Shirley's.
