"Something with a Flag" was on the list today. I didn't want to go outside and sketch. It is pretty warm still. We probably have about a month of this hot weather. Usually we were in the mountains until mid September, I miss that.
Anyway I sketched at the dining table looking toward the laundry room where we have the flag on the wall. This is sort of a ceramic flag but of a lighter material. The edges of the apple paintings were in my view as well. Again, I did not follow the association idea, just drew the subjects. A reminder that I draw freehand. The sketch is in the coffee table book with a Sharpie Pen.
Number 3, something with a flag - the wall over the doorway
Number 4, something colorful - the apple paintings.
You can read about the flag in this post. I've sketched it quite a few times.

While sketching I listened to a Mike Rowe podcast. He is always fun and interesting. There is a short story about a WWII veteran to start with and then the longer part with an Afghanistan vet. Amazing men.

I'm so proud to be an American and proud of our military. Too bad we can't be as proud of our politicians. Quite a few of them are ashamed to be Americans. It looks like many vets will be running for office in the next election. Hopefully they will win, we need change and term limits.
Thanks to the first responders most of us sleep soundly in the good old USA. Not true of course, in the cities like Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles and many other urban areas.
Not easy to feel safe with the open southern border. About a million undocumented/illegal people in this year. They said on TV yesterday that 5,000 or so of the unaccompanied children have been given to "guardians" and the State Department has lost contact with them. Who has them??
And now the destruction of Ida has millions more people without homes, food and water.
What's next? Don't want to think about that. Do a good deed today. Be safe and wear a smile.

I always wonder what they do with the undocumented children? They didn't ask me if I wanted a few.
I need to listen to that podcast. The title is intriguing. My great-aunt and uncle lost a child to cystic fibroses and their marriage fell apart. The uncle was really a great guy, but he began having an affair. Not long after he divorced my aunt, she got cancer and was gone in 6 months. My dad always said that if my uncle had known of the cancer, he would have stayed and been a good husband until the end. He could have been the hero, and instead he was the asshole.
PS. I read the first book in the Hetta Coffey series by Jinx Schwartz and started on the second book. Hetta is a smart-mouthed Texas girl living on a boat in Oakland, CA. The book had a little mystery and lots of sass. I copied a quote from the book and thought of you, "Always put off thinking today about something I can possibly forget tomorrow."
Bag Blog, yep, the uncle sounds like he was not the best. Missed his opportunity to do good.
The quote fits my procrastination to a "T". Thanks, I'm smiling.
Podcasts are better for me as they don't use much data like streaming. Our streaming is still awful and haven't heard about Starlink for a while. Tesla is working on trying to get a tunnel from the airport and his business to Austin for fast travel. Guess he is sidetracked from the internet. Sigh...
Somehow I had missed the flag story before. Sounds like it (and the previous flag) don't fare well when traveling or just hanging around. Glad you have been able to replace it each time.
Ha, Joan. I guess the first flag was in 1974 when we went to Bolivia, so guess they didn't fare too badly. At our age, this one is probably the last. :-)
Joan, happy to hear you made it through the storm OK. You New Yorkers have had a hard time lately.
