Clusters and Leaves and Painting

I was on the porch having coffee and thinking about the list and something I could sketch outside.  Clusters was on the list.  Leaf or leaves was also on the list.  There were a few other things I could sketch out there but the geranium plant came into my view.  So there you are then.

I decided I could also try the colored pens again.  I gathered up the pens and markers and went to work.

For Scavenger Hunt 678.

Number 2, cluster - the bunches of blooms
Number 3, leaves - I could see some ivy, but I think it is poison ivy so avoided that!  I found some grass and Yaupon leaves.

The pens would be faster than colored pencils but I wasn't in a hurry today.  There is no yellow-green so I tried a few different mixtures of greens and yellows.  The ink doesn't really blend, probably a better way to do the mixing would be with crosshatching.

(small rant you can skip back to art after this)  We spent a long time at Lowe's yesterday.  We are having the trim on the house painted and decided to put new ceiling fans on the two porches with lights.  We found a couple we liked.  The fans had gone up about 25% since the last time I looked so we got them now before they go up more.  Gene was also looking for a plain board, 1 x 12 inches and six feet long for a shelf in his work shop.  He found a piece of pine, the cheapest wood.  Yikes!  $25.  He asked a worker if it was 6 feet long as we didn't have a tape measure with us.  Yes it is she said and also said we would get 50% off because the edge was damaged.  What a deal.  Gene just put the damage toward the wall!

I can't imagine trying to build or buy a house at this time.  All prices of everything going up.  Thanks to our government spending our money.  Some governor said he was going to have a drawing among people that would get their vaccine and give 5 prizes of $1,000,000.  A million, yes not a typo.  An announcer on TV said at least the winners would probably spend the money more reasonably than the government at the moment.  People are so excited to get a government handout.  It is money from the people that are working and paying their taxes -- not really government money.  Well maybe it is, they seem to print as much as they want to spend.  No thought to the future except getting more votes.  Sigh.....

Oops, didn't mean to rant.  As promised back to art.....

I haven't posted in a while about Duane Keiser who more or less started the daily painting craze and is still painting very often.  I love his most recent.

His videos are so much fun to watch.  You can see his approach with strokes, etc.  He paints and unpaints to tell a story.    Have a look on youtube. I like the Cadmium Red, of course, and the older ones like Yolk and Peel.

Have fun and come back sometime........

The pen colors are nice and bright. I like the effect you are getting. The problem with me colored pens is that they don't blend well. Too bad because they come in handy. Glad Gene got a bargain, but I find that if something is a bargain then right behind it is something that uses up that money quickly. lol

Joan, thanks. The same with pens as you read. And you are right about the bargain. The plumbing company finally got to us on the list from the damage from the freeze a couple of months ago. The water softener needed $450 worth of work on it from freeze damage. Sigh.

price of wood has gone up mostly due to transport problems and problems at the border between canada and the states i think i read due to covid and then also people not being able to actually do any actual felling due to covid. hopefully go back down after things start getting back on track

Jennifer Rose, we can only hope. :-(

I thought the colored pen sketches were bright and fun.

As for the rant, lumber prices are crazy and the housing market is way high. I think it started with the storms up and down the coast last year. Every time there is a hurricane, lumber goes up. Then people started buying houses - even in Duncan! People can work from home, so it doesn't matter where they live. We have had lots of people from out of state buying homes here. Bo and Sara have been looking for a bigger home, but now the market is too crazy. The good news is that they may try to build on our 75 acres.

Bag Blog, the interest is low at the moment. They will raise them to help stop the inflation. Worried about that. Would be nice if they built on your land. Good neighbors. :-)
