Sketching is keeping my fingers wet or at least in art mode. Scavenger Hunt 644
https://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/topic/scavenger-hunt-644-aug-11-19/
is almost over and I'm up to Number 5 out of the 26 items. Not very ambitious. I did paint with the pastels in the middle of the time since I last posted. That will be in a follow up post to this one.
I sketched in the big book with my Lamy pen while watching TV.
Number 2, hood- This is a navy blue hoodie that I got in Florida. I got tired and forgot to finish the scene of the restaurant on the beach. I got it at Pop's Sunset Grill. We did our morning walk around the westerly lake. It was warm and not as much breeze as on previous mornings. We did stop at one of the benches and I sketched for a bit in the travel sketchbook, a Canson Mix Media 7 x 10 inches with a Micron 02 pen.
Number 3, crane - Substitute an Egret and a couple of Black-belly Whistling ducks. A passer by gave us the name of the ducks. They are sort of a dark rusty color with the dark under side. Interesting that they just sat there on the ground while the Egret was out wading.
Number 4, giant - a snippet of the trunk of a huge Loblolly pine that gives the bench most of it's shade.
Number 5, miniature - a couple of little dragon flies that were liking the tops of the tall grasses.
I sketched the hanging plant out on the porch the other day. I found out they are Purslane that close in the evening and open after the sun is out in the mornings. A couple of snapshots to show you the difference.

I never know the names of plants or animals. I like the purslane plant. It seems similar to the rose moss (?) that I am able to keep alive for a while. Back in my college days, I was crossing the bridge on the river headed to class at SWTSU. I saw this bird floating in the water - like a duck, but not. Then it dove under and came up across the river. It did this several times while I was watching it - fascinated. A man came along and told me it was a water chicken. Sounded good to me.
I'm terrible with plants. I manage to let most die. I do like to look at them and love to see pretty gardens. We had gardeners in South America and they would take cuttings and thin plants from other yards and move them around so all the houses had beautiful plants. The geraniums grew on lattices up the high walls. I never heard of a water chicken. It is good that passersby can fill us in. :-)
Those flowers are so pretty.
Joanna, the flowers are still blooming away. Fun to watch and pretty to see.
