Metal and Glass Sketches

It's been a few days since I have sketched and posted.  We went to Austin to sit with our grand-dogs. Jennie and Brandon are traveling.   I took the big sketchbook to put something in it that I haven't sketched at home.

For Scavenger Hunt 645

Number 2, metal - the water stand David made for Jennie.  I drew the bottom very poorly, It should be sort of a paw print.  I lost the circles from the angle I was looking from.  Just noticed that.
Number 3, glass - a rose globe that Jennie has.  It has a blue rose and sits on some blue and silver papers.

We enjoyed our stay with the dogs.  We updated our phone apps and binge watched Bosch on Amazon Prime which we can't do at home.  We ate Jennie's left overs so didn't have to cook!  Larry came in on Sunday night and took over dog duty and we came home.

Yesterday was Gene's 29th anniversary of his 50th birthday.  We had a quiet day.  We were going to go for a walk around the lake about 9 a.m.  I watered the plant out on the porch and it was dark and cloudy.  I checked radar and it was clear for about an hour it said.  We got ready and went out through the garage and it was pouring down rain.  No walk!  We got an inch and a half of rain in about an hour.  So much for the weather app I was using.   In the evening we went to dinner at the Front Room in Smithville.  So nice with quiet comfort and good food and drink.  We even had dessert since we didn't have birthday cake.

It looks like Laura didn't do too much damage in Texas.  I feel for those that have received the brunt of the storm.  Terrifying.

Quotes from Gene's journal:

“I no longer listen to what people say, I just watch what they do. Behavior never lies”. -- Winston Churchill.

"A nation that forgets its past has no future." -- Winston Churchill

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."-- Winston Churchill
“Suppose you were a member of Congress. And suppose you were an idiot.  But I repeat myself.” Mark Twain

We have a great country, the best of the best.  But, what happened to the big melting pot?  Now we blame everyone else and we are asked to be diverse and depend on the Federal government for everything.   "They" are putting us all in different and separate boxes of race, creed and gender.  We are losing our companionship and love of country.  How do we get out of our boxes and join our fellow Americans?  I'm OK with my German, English, Mexican heritage but I am American first, dang it.  Help the homeless, veterans and helpless.  Get the capable folks back to work and responsible for themselves.

Concentrate on what we have in common like desire for freedom, opportunity and choice ...  not how we are different.  We have a constitution to cover law and order.  Respect it and use it.  We have freedom to speak our minds and protest but not freedom to maim and destroy.  It all comes down to responsibility for our own actions.

This article addresses some of  personal accountability.  I wish all the politicians would read it and take heed.  I think this is the biggest problem in our wonderful country.  Thanks, John Weiss.  John is an ex-policeman and now artist.

Happy Birthday to Gene!!!! Sounds like you had a nice celebration.

You are right. There are so many things that we have in common, but the focus seems to be on the differences and too many people seem to care just about themselves and not how their behavior impacts everyone else. I am hoping for better days soon.

Joan, thank you. Gene had fun with all the good wishes!
Yes, better days are something to look forward to. I think a lot of my restlessness is just thinking we are shut in. We are so fortunate to still be able to get out and about, even if it is limited. I'm happy to see you getting out to sketch some. Hugs to you both.

I am way behind in my computer, phone, email, etc. Maybe it is because everything is a bit depressing right now. I missed Gene's birthday :( Celebrate again just for me!

I am headed over to Weiss' blog next.

Bag Blog, Yep, things are depressing. We are celebrating the birthdays on Saturday so we can all be there, well, the Texas all. We will have a toast from you.
I like Weiss' blog, been following him for years.

Joanna, the dogs behaved. Never sure about Nala and your dad, but all went well.
