Aspens on the road from Angel Fire to Taos
The Rio Grande Gorge when leaving Taos.
Houses and trees near Española, New Mexico. I love the old cottonwoods and poplar trees.
We stopped in Albuquerque and Grants and drove through the Malpais National Monument to get to Quemado, Pie Town (stopped for pie) and Magdalena. Beautiful bluffs and drive.
The Magdalena Fault line sign was not there when we were growing up. Our friend Gene Mear talked to Gene about it some years ago and we were surprised to hear it. Now they have it documented.
This is near Sierra Vista, Arizona. It is really beautiful there. Hot desert, but a bit of altitude so not as hot as Tucson or Phoenix.
We spent an hour or so in Tombstone, Arizona. We missed the show, but here are some of the actors.
There is a tunnel on the way to Bisbee, Arizona.
The open pit mine just outside of Bisbee.
It rained along Highway 9 between Bisbee and Columbus, New Mexico, (right on the border of Mexico) the night before we drove by. They had 3.5 inches of rain, a lot for the desert. We couldn't tel if the car tried to go around and the road ended in the water or if they were washed there by the flash flood. Bad news whichever. You can see where they were fixing the road when we came by. It looked like it would be another day or so before they could get to the car. It does dry up quickly, though.
This is at Columbus when you are entering from Deming. You are looking straight to Mexico.
Some more photos of the rain damage and left over clouds.
A rain shower along the way to El Paso.
The mountains near El Paso. Stark and dry in the distance.
This is near Ft. Stockton, Texas. The hill looks like it has a ruffled skirt thrown over it.
You can find many more photos of similar trips here on my blog in the search window, top left. I tried to show some different looks on this trip. I took many photos as always, some of the same places I always do ... like the Ladrones. That's the way I am.
