Sketching Here and There

Here, at home, I sketched in the big book on Tuesday after I posted my blog for the day.  I used the Pilot fountain pen.

Number 3, carrot with the challenge of a hand a day.
Number 4, lampshade

Yesterday at the hospital while Gene had his 3D MRI for his surgery I sketched in my travel sketchbook, the 7 x 10 inch Canson Mix Media.  Joanna worked on some of her projects and we visited.  We had quite a while to wait.

Number 5, elevator with a big window looking at a parking building on the second floor.

Number 6, quirky - the lights on the ceiling in the waiting area.  They hang down from the ceiling and are about 6 feet in diameter.  Some hands and a tiny nose above the ceiling sketch on folks in the waiting area.

These sketches are for Scavenger Hunt 563  http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?p=21477168

I got to my watercolor class for the last 1 1/2 hours.  Pomona had talked about the different color schemes using the color wheel to create pleasing combinations for painting.  There are several, like triad with 3 evenly spaced colors on the wheel; complimentary using 2 colors across from each other;  tetrad with 4 colors evenly spaced around the wheel, etc.  I chose to try the triad using orange, green and blue violet.  My violet was a little red for my taste.

I decided to use this sketch for the Hunt, Number 7, surprising - the coffee pot Pomona brought was unusual and surprising.  An odd shape which we should try to do again with the shapes to make an abstract, maybe.

Using a bluer violet whould have given me a more "gray" neutral color.  It was fun and I had to work quickly so I sort of worked wet into wet for the background and shading.  The light had mixed shadows and I started off that way which is not a good idea in a painting.  The shadows do not make sense that way.  If I wanted, I could make the background darker and move the shadow of the tube that sticks out to the right.  But practice and learn.

Interesting pot, eh.  Makes about 1 small cup of coffee.

Homework is to finish my charts and try some more painting.  I need to practice leaving white and light.  The opposite of painting with oils and pastels.

what a neat looking pot :)

great sketches from the hospital :) I've had plenty of MRIs but never a 3D one, would be neat to see the results of one :)

Hope all goes well with Gene's procedure. Give him my best wishes. Glad you can sketch while you wait. It does make time pass easier.

Jennifer Rose, yes a fun new item to sketch. I doubt we will get to see the MRI, maybe??

Joan, thank you so much. The Hospital is the new teaching hospital at The University of Texas so quite modern in design. Still looks like a hospital, though. Ha.

I know here you can ask to see the MRI, not sure about there though. worth asking maybe

I put it in the notes to see the MRI, thanks for the reminder.

I was on my phone the other day when I commented - very difficult to type and to send. The watercolor coffee pot is really nice. I like the colors! I like the wash around the pot. It is hard for me to be loose sometimes and let the water do its stuff. I just finished two watercolors and they are both very tight. Wound up like a clock! I have been wanting to paint something big with a big brush hopefully to loosen me up. Or wine is always good.

Bag Blog, yep, I dislike typing on my phone and iPad. I have a keyboard for the iPad but you still have to touch the screen and I get all backwards. Thanks on the watercolor. You know about keeping the white. I will keep at it for my class and hopefully I can keep on enough to get to like it more.
