Sketches on Marine's Birthday

Another shout out to the United States Marine Corps, "Happy Birthday number 241!"

I sketched this morning at the dining table in the big book with a Micron 05 pen.  It was probably about 30 minutes for all sketches.

Number 3, something used daily - Napkins and Salt and Pepper
Number 4, something used rarely - Waffle iron
Number 5, something in front of you - looking out the window

I will set this to post this evening, I don't want it to push my Marine Birthday post down the page.  Hope you all had a great day!

Did I mention that Gene got a wonderful birthday present?  The kiddos had a song written about him and performed by George Ensle.  I'm pretty sure I posted about this.  Anyway, he was saying that it is his favorite song now and listens to it daily.

That reminded me about my mom and I may have said this before as well.  They listened to the radio as there were no TV sets.  In the morning they listened to KOB in Albuquerque.  They had news and  a morning variety show.  Mom always said, "Oh, that is my favorite song!", when just about any song was playing.  She sang and played the piano by ear, so she knew many of them.   However, she did not care for Frank Sinatra.  They played him often on the morning show.  She wrote to the station and told them to quit playing Frank's songs.  She told them that the songs made the cows cry and drew a picture to prove it!

great story about your mom drawing crying cows :)
and a very nice gift to give Gene, a lot more personal than just getting a card :)

It was written and performed by George Ensly,a very well known singer/songwriter in Austin and Nashville, the title is "Greater Than Life". Bar none the best Birthday present I have ever received.

Jennifer Rose, my mom was great. Always singing and joking. I never saw her really angry with anyone. Gene's gift was very special. We were all teary-eyed.

Gene, you are so right. Special song and special kiddos. The song quotes you saying,
"My kids are brilliant
And my grandkids are too", very appropriate. :)

I love the song about Gene. It fits him perfect. Your mother sounds delightful and fun - you must take after her.

Bag Blog, ha. Gene says he wishes I took more after my mom, but I do have a stubborn Knoblock streak from my Dad. :-)
