Hunting for 424 Sketches - Fire Note

We went to Austin to take Gene's trike for a tune-up.  I sketched in my little travel sketchbook in my purse while I waited patiently.  The sketchbook pages are about 3 x 5 inches so these are a whole page.  The pen is just a ball point pen, generic.

Number 6, red - letters and tomato and logo on a little black bag of ketchup from a restaurant??
Number 7, something affiliated with an animal - the little toy dog in the car.  You touch him and his tail wags.

Number 8 (miss-numbered, don't know why and didn't see it until after I scanned and resized), made in a factory - a little white SUV parked there.

The big fires here in Bastrop/Smithville are 50% contained.  We are about 5 miles from them, now. Scary and smokey at first, but the responders were well prepared this time and all the support agencies were/are still in place.  Around 50 homes and 10 businesses burned and double that saved. The winds were much more favorable this fire.

You will not believe, well, you will believe, that crazy people are still burning leaves, etc.  The Sheriff's office and PD are giving tickets and even arresting people that won't comply with the Burn Ban.  They don't seem to care about their own danger but should consider the rest of us!!  There have been several fires along the highways started by cigarette smokers.  Yikes!

A few folks resist being evacuated as well.  That puts the firemen in danger.  Sigh.....

Thanks to all the responders and volunteers from all around the country.  The firemen here are mostly volunteers and do a super job.  The Texas Forest service, police, and Bluebonnet Electric all work so hard.  They are using a DC-10, helicopters and crop dusters to drop retardant and water on the fire.  Prayers for them all and the folks that lost their homes.

It is amazing that some people give no thought to the problems their actions can cause! Stay safe, my friend.

Thanks Joan. Things look very good this evening. There are other fires around Texas, though. Hope we get the rain they say is coming this week. You take care, too. :)

if an evacuation order is given, you listen to it, no ifs and or buts. daft people. your house as nice as its might be, is not worth losing your life over.

I remember when they had a fire ban in Alberta, (very common there), the police where giving tickets out to people who were tossing their cigarettes out the window. people don't stop and think what could happen :/

Jennifer Rose, you are soooo right. You need to be prepared if you are going to live in the forest. We were evacuated once before the last fire in the old house.
