Hunting for Hunt 403

Scavenger Hunt 403 is underway.  I sketched in the dining room this afternoon in the large sketchbook with a Micron 01 pen.  Quickly and freehand which is the normal routine.

Number 1, box, and number 2, basket.

This started me thinking about "things".  We accumulate so many things.  The box is from an Amazon order.  Ordering from Amazon can become quite an addiction.  Just a couple of clicks and a couple of days and voilà, there it is!
The full definition of voilà according to Merriam-Webster is:  used to call attention, to express satisfaction or approval, or to suggest an appearance as if by magic.

There you are!  No wonder ordering is so much fun.  We are lucky we are not in the new areas where they are experimenting and your order can come in a couple of hours.  Wow.  We are far enough from the city that our one day service is sometimes two as it has to make a transition in Austin.

When we moved into this home and everything had to be purchased or accumulated from the beginning, we said no more collections of "things".  Well, we do pretty well, but I notice the empty corners and closets have begun to fill up.  We have quite a bit of art on the walls, besides mine.  Gene has a cane collection.  My cabinet is filling with mugs again.

Other art is around the house as well.  The basket was given to me by my niece, Carolyn.  We made a trade a few years ago of one of her handmade baskets for a sunset painting.  I received the basket but have not painted the painting.  This sketch reminded me to get with it and work on a sunset for her.  What kind of aunt am I??  Yikes.

The basket is very special.  Carolyn moved to Tennessee and decided to learn to make traditional Applachian baskets from vines and local material.  This is an egg basket and very sturdy.  I love looking at it on my kitchen counter.  I don't always "see" it for what it is, though.  We usually have electronic cables and cell phone extras in it.  I wonder what the old timers would think of that.

I am glad that I decided to sketch this basket today and really look at it.  It reminds me to take a look around me and enjoy the other art I take for granted and am "used to looking at without seeing it".   I am sure this will inspire me to get to work on the painting!  Won't Carolyn be surprised!

I need to have a big garage sale - way too many corners filled up - way too many useless things. We used to move often enough that I got rid of junk, but we have been at this house about ten years now. I bet I could make some money on a garage sale. Then I could order things from Amazon!

I like your box drawing - really nice.

Bag Blog, Ha! We don't have old things anymore. Just old Amazon stuff! Not much fun for a garage sale only donations to charity. :) Thanks on the drawing.

you don't have garage sales here, car boot sale tho but don't make money on things since people want things for pennies

very nice basket :) I'm sure old timers would be all right with it being used as a holder for cables, unless you had chickens and needed some place to put the eggs :p
