Bling Hat Pastel Sketch

Scavenger Hunt 363 started yesterday.  Hat was one of the items.  I bought a  hat at the Bling when I was there for First Friday.  It seemed ideal to sketch for a "different" hat.  I sketch so many of the same old things.  Then because it is such a bright color I thought to use pastels.  Of course my pastels are always ready in my studio, very  convenient.

Number 1, hat - my faux rhinestone cowboy blingy straw hat, which is probably my painting hat for the summer.  It is pretty floppy and will be cool.  The paper is Canson Mi Teintes which has a grid and that helps for the straw look.  It is about a 10 x 12 inch piece of paper.  The paper is inexpensive and good to practice on.  It doesn't take many layers of pastel which seems to make me put down a stroke and leave it without blending.  I should do that type of practice more.  I worked on this for about 15 minutes.

For my art link today:

Drop over and visit Rae Andrews, http://raeandrewsgallery.blogspot.com/ .  She is so adept with pastels and watercolors.  She gives classes, too.  Rae paints a lot, which really shows in her beautiful and colorful work.  Nice person, too.  It looks like she will be voted in as the new President of the Austin Pastel Society.  The APS is a very good group of artists.  They are skilled, friendly and sharing.  Check them out, too.  austinpastelsociety.org
