First Friday, Sketching

Next up for me is a show at the Bastrop Fine Arts Guild, 1009 Main Street, Bastrop, Texas.  Pastel artists are featured for July.  The opening is First Friday, July 6 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Hope to see you at Pastels on Parade.  I will also have pastels in my spot in the gallery.  If you can get by during the month you can see about 7 of my paintings.  They are always better in person.

First Friday is growing in Bastrop.  Many of the merchants have guest artists and refreshments.  The other stores have the refreshments starting at 5:00 p.m.  You can visit and vote for your favorite artist.  A great time to see new artwork and meet the artists.  Have a look around!

Scavenger Hunt 273 is about half over.  Here are my first two done in the car in my pocket sketchbook, about 3.5 x 7 inches with the ball point Pilot pen.  I had a few minutes to wait for Gene to get some labwork done.  It wasn’t too hot yet, so I waited and sketched.

Number 1, looking up at something.  The awning on the medical building.

Number 2, cute.  This is a stretch for “cute”.  After the lab, we went to eat at the Texas Grill.  It is an old fashioned restaurant with captains chairs.  They have the old salt and pepper and sugar containers.  Breakfast is like old times.  We haven't eaten anything but breakfast there.  They used to have smoking which turned us off, but I think it is smoke free for more than a year now.

We had a busy weekend.  We went to a play in Smithville, Balderdash.  It was a local melodrama.  Fun. Up next is the Rocky Horror Show.

We went to the Revel as mentioned a couple of posts ago.  You really need to get to see Joel and the rest.  Amazing music, knowledge and fun.

We went to the Cactus Cafe on Monday to see the Carper Family with Cindy Cashdollar sitting in.  Wow, different and fun.  Old country music with a twist, or new music with an old country sound ... which ever.  The gals can really play and sing.

Sketching that awning was difficult with that perspective, but you did great.

Bag Blog, thanks, I started the roof off quite a bit as you see. Ha. I need to think before I put the pen down. Susan Carlin gave me a good hint, she thinks of the point of the pen like the cursor with the perpendicular lines radiating so you can measure where to start. It helps me a lot when I remember to do that before I put down the line. Sigh....
