My mom used to say that all the time. I thought of it as I looked for a church to sketch and to upload my second blog post of the day. I have this little church that we gave Gene’s mom when we were in Peru. It came around the circle and back to us. The palette is about 14 inches in diameter and the church is about 3.5 inches tall, but the size looks close in sketches, eh?
That is one reason that it is nice to see paintings in person. Hard to imagine so much in the small paintings and how to fill a canvas for a large painting. I hope you get out and browse some art. Both new local art and visit a museum or two. The paintings come to life when seen in person and you may be surprised at the size. If you look on Wikipedia here you will see some very elaborate portraits in miniature.
Now, back to the sketches done in my Ultrecht brown paper sketchbook with a Prismacolor Premier 08 marker/pen with a little colored pencil added.

I always stand in awe when viewing a painting up close and personal. It is the brush strokes and color that amaze me. The real size can be a surprise, too, if you have only seen photos of a painting. The Prix de West is coming up soon, and I love that art show.
