A Bit of Nothing (iPad sketches)

There are days when you (I) don't feel like doing anything.  Today is it.  However, I can't justify taking all days off and having an off day everyday.  An OLD friend told me that he made a plan for every day to keep him going.  I asked what it was and he said, "I plan to get up in the morning!"

On days like this, I know I will do better if I actually do something.  I did a bit of exercise with my weights when I got up.  Later,  I got out the iPad and sat on the porch and sketched.  Not very enthusiastically, but I did sketch.

This afternoon is the Austin Pastel Society meeting in Austin.  It is garage sale day.  Of course I don't have anything to sell at the art sale so I will just go to be sociable and maybe find something I would like to buy.  I did get a small portable watercolor set one time that I really liked, so who knows??

My two sketches done on the iPad, this time with the DrawCast app.  That app adds a new challenge to sketches as it has a more fixed palette of 24 colors.  You tap adjacent colors quickly to get more colors.  The opposite or complementary colors are not adjacent so it is a bit difficult to get grays.  You can darken colors but not lighten them more than the original so highlights have to be sort of erased.  To me figuring out how much to erase,  takes more time than the actual drawing so I am not patient with that.  I much prefer the Brushes app.

For Scavenger Hunt 268:

Number 4, inside - Gene in his chair on the inside of the newly screened in porch.

Challenge, to draw the opposite.  Nala was outside wanting to come in so I tried to capture her.  She is  very high strung or high energy, so doesn't stay still long.  But the sketch is to be from life and not a photo and this is what you get!

Hope you are having a great painting/sketching weekend.  If it is your day off, uh, off day, I hope you are doing something to get you back into your creative mode, too.  What do you do to get energized?

I'll send Jesse down to see you. Having her around energizes me. Well, actually I just feel guilty when she is working on things and I am being a potato.

Bag Blog, your comment made me smile. Thanks. Sometimes we need a push and I guess guilt works OK , too. You inspire me to get to work.
