Bastrop Resident - Pastel Painting Auction

This is the second time I painted this Bastrop Resident rooster.  They live along Farm Street and have been given protection.  I only got a couple of real fast photos last time by the railroad tracks.  There were four of the chickens this time and this rooster let me take a couple of photos, then put up his tail and herded the others away.

I am putting him on the Daily Paintworks Auction page starting at $35.  That is a bargain.  It would normally be $50.  If you send me an e-mail before the bidding starts, you can buy him at $50 and I will take him out of the auction.

I like the way you can get a real glow to the feathers with pastel.  Part of the reason is that pastels are almost pure pigment and are like little crystals so they reflect the light nicely if they haven't been smoothed out.  On this painting I did blend the background, but the rooster is pure strokes of pastel.  In real life he is not so blue.

I will work on a companion piece today with any luck or a little ambition.  The grand-dogs will be leaving and heading home.  They have enjoyed the freedom of the back yard.

Roosters are fun to paint - great color and texture.

Bag Blog, thanks. There was another one there, too, so I can paint another.
