Pastel Paintings

I told you that I painted a couple of small paintings.  I painted a horse colt, just for fun.  I am trying to get back in the creative mood.  I have tried various methods and am now going to the "paint something every day, regardless" mode and see if that works.

Today I'm painting on an acrylic flower painting, petunias.  I also started a pastel painting of some garlic cloves.  I bought them yesterday at Walmart.  I rarely buy groceries there, but was with Janice so went ahead and got it while I was thinking about it.  I opened up the little box this morning to put the cloves in a bowl and wouldn't you know it, they had been there so long that they are sprouting.  Perfect for painting!  Let's see if I get the painting done before they just go bad.

In the meantime I will show you the little colt.  I got the picture from the images on wetcanvas.com.  Cbrooks put the photo up in 2007.  Thank you.

Colt, 8 x 8 inches,  pastel on Pastel Artist Panels, by Multimedia Artboard.  I bought the panels from Dakota Art.  The panels are very close to Colourfix sanded paper.  Very even, hold the pastel well and did not buckle as I did an under painting with pastel and water.  It was a fun exercise and gave me some practice.  I love horses so that spurred me to try the colt.  It is just for me.  I don't have any photos of colts on hand to paint to sell even if I wanted to.

Prim and Proper, pastel on Pastelbord, 5 x 7 inches

The second painting I worked on last week was for the Austin Kappa Derby Day exhibit.  Information on the side panel under exhibits.  You may recall that I made a photo box for the silent auction which you can view here.  I love the wildflowers and the primroses are just so interesting to paint.  These were in our yard.

Here it is in the frame.  If you would like to purchase this item, you will have to make your way to the Derby Day afternoon!  It is a great time with food, drink, paintings, silent auction and fun.  See you there!

Toby says "horse colt" too. Must be a New Mexico thang.

Bag Blog, hmmmm . Maybe a horse colt is a male. I'm trying to remember. I didn't even notice I said that. Sort of redundant otherwise, eh? Ha. I just googled it and a colt is a male under 4 and a female under 4 is a filly. I didn't think they were fillies until they were yearlings. Learn something every day don't we.

Gene says he always says horse colt for a male. Must be a NM thang for sure.

The colt is so cute!!!

I like the primroses as well. I wouldn't expect to like pink flowers but I love primroses!

Thank ye, Joanna. I like primroses, too. I need to do them in watercolor, would be softer I think.....

Primroses are probably made for watercolor!

Joanna, you are so right. This painting had to be in pastel for the Austin Pastel Society, but I will try a watercolor.
