Sculpture Exhibit, Sunday (sketches, too)

I wish I was in Texas to see this sculpture exhibit.  I took this from Kelly Borsheim's newsletter:
You are invited to see over 120 sculptures in a variety of materials and styles by over 45 sculptors, including three of my own sculptures. Organized as the summer exhibition of The Texas Society of Sculptors, the Georgetown City Library in central Texas is a wonderful space for viewing 3-d art. There is even a HUGE charging bronze rhinoceros to great you as you enter the library.
Award ceremony and reception: THIS Sunday, July 17
1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on the second floor of the library
Awards will be announced at 1:30 p.m. Live music starts at 2 p.m.

Georgetown City Library
402 W. 8th St. (just west of the courthouse)

See you there! [Exhibit continues through 23 September 2011.]

You can learn a lot about art by reading Kelly's newsletter.  She is accomplished, talented and writes well (and a lot .. be prepared).  This newsletter has an article about her visit to the Blanton Museum in Austin and art history discussion about Sebastiano Ricci and more.

I sketched yesterday for Scavenger Hunt 229 in the Utrecht sketchbook with the Prismacolor pen.  I started sketching the wine box on the refrigerator and ran into a problem in perspective.  I scratched the lines in a few times before I could "see" the angles.  It is not perfect, but much better than the first start.  Take a look at some corners where you are sitting and see what angles are involved.  It can get complicated.  You can't draw the parallel lines parallel or the drawing looks flat.  Here is a link to one point perspective.  Then you add in different directions, etc.   Not easy.  Artists that work mainly with architecture amaze me.

This is the scratches I was making to see the angles.  I did not use vanishing points, it would have helped.  I'm not doing an architectural drawing so just eyeballed it.

Number 11, acquired taste - wine and Number 12, appliance - the fridge.

Number 13, ace and Number 14, almond.  This was on the brown paper, too .. lost the color!  Were there more almonds in the lid of the jar when I started?  I love eating "models"!

Perspective has always come easy for me, but still, sometimes I really goof on it. It can mess up a painting.

Bag Blog, that is so true and a tiny waver makes a whole building look like it is falling over. :)

Ahhh...Mom. You and perspective do seem to have a very complicated relationship! :-)

Yes, Joanna. And I rarely study or practice it which I should! I recall you giving me a book about that, didn't you???? :)
