How do you critique your own painting? Sometimes I think we are too hard on ourselves and sometimes I think we begin the critique too early. It is so easy to say that the painting isn't working or isn't what I planned. But hey, give it a little more time and it will probably fall right in place. All paintings have an ugly stage.
On the other hand there are ways to critique and figure out what is not working and how to improve it on your own.
Stefan Baumann wrote a post that is very helpful with some answers and questions to ask ourselves.

Another idea is to have a painting buddy or group to help out when you are stumped. I have a spouse, children and great painting buddy,
Regina Burchett, to help me when I can't "see" something. I also have my Fine Art Friends that you will find in the sidebar.
