Sketches and Acrylic Monarch Painting

Scavenger Hunt 215 on wetcanvas.com is about over.  I did get 2 more small ones done last night.  These are with a regular Pilot ballpoint pen in a regular sketchbook, freehand.

Number 3, envelope from one of Gene's cards and Number 4,  guilty pleasure - a little chocolate and wine.
I have sketched the wine glass how many times???  It is never the same.  Maybe too much imbibing while I sketch, eh?

I worked on a commission I am doing at the studio/gallery today.  I was to have it done before we went to San Antonio, but no such luck.  One more day, I hope.  So to take a break, I painted a quick butterfly on a daisy.  I took the photo about three years ago.  I was looking for a cactus pear bloom photo today for another commission and found this.  It seemed something simple to do to relax.  It will be on Jo's Notions,  my other blog.

The Monarch, acrylic on canvas board, 7 x 5 inches
The colors look a little flat here.  I will check it before I varnish it tomorrow, and before I post it on the blog.  Acrylics are like that.  They look so bright when I put the paint down.  Then the water evaporates and the color fades a little.  Varnish helps to bring the color back, but it is hard then to get a good photo with the sheen.  Maybe it is just the trip from the painting to the camera to the computer.  Or maybe my old tired eyes.  We will see.

I like the butterfly.

Bag Blog, thanks. I had never done that old standard painting! I enjoyed painting it.

I like the butterfly too.

And, yeah...go ahead and blame the wine glass variability on the imbibing. We'll all buy that one!

Thank you, Joanna. I will just keep practicing on the old wine glass .... and imbibing. One day it will look OK. :-)

Is there a way to mix pastel w acrylic to bring more bright pigment into it? I can see you are a pastel fan.

It was great to meet ya today at your shop! Either way, looks like you had fun w the painting.

Hi Steve! We had a demo at the Austin Pastel Society a while back .. like a year. Prismacolor was coming out with some new soft pastels and the lady that did the demo mixed them some way. I will look up the info I had. I had forgotten about that! I will get back and post it!

Nice to meet you. More later.
